| Fireclave04-13-07, 10:27 PM | But technically, the feat says that you combine the jump and the charge. So I would say, no, it can't be done without twisting the rules. |
| runestar04-13-07, 10:31 PM | In theory, this could be possible if you were your own mount(as is the case for tauric creatures such as centaurs), so I can see spirited charge stacking with leap attack....:P Races of faerun states that centaurs may benefit from spirited charge(and pick it without having to meet the prereqs), so there is no problem there. Thus, a centaur with shock trooper utilizing power attack, spirited charge and leap attack with a lance deals quad damage on a successful charge(don't forget all out power attack adding 2:1 damage ratio)... |
| Pennarin04-13-07, 10:35 PM | How about this then, mirroring the Mounted Mobility feat found in Heroes of Battle: MOUNTED LEAP ATTACK You can combine a powerful mounted charge and mighty leap into one devastating attack. Prerequisites: Jump 8 ranks, Mounted Combat, Power Attack, Ride 4 ranks. Benefit: Same as Complete Adventurer's Leap Attack feat, except that it is your mount that charges and jump. |
| Pennarin04-13-07, 10:40 PM | With Leap Attack, and armbands of might*, you can charge and leap at the end, sacrificing +2 to your attack roll using Power Attack, and gain +8 to damage. (+2 x3 from Leap Attack, plus +2 from armbands.) Pretty sweet deal. * From Complete Adventurer: Confers +2 to damage if you sacrifice a minimum of +2 from attack roll using Power Attack. |
| Kazgoth04-14-07, 12:05 AM | To me, it seems the added benefits of leap attack are derived from momentum. Therefore, I can't see why a person couldn't leap attack off a charging mount as long as the mount moves the necessary distance and the players makes a successful ride check DC 20, dismounting as a free action- Perhaps a DC 25, since you could argue that being out of the saddle in preparation for the leap is similar to riding bareback and would add 5- and if it failed you would need to make a reflex save/dex check/tumble/etc to avoid falling prone. Also, I would say if your mount was large enough (over 10') you would need to tumble to avoid falling damage, but I don't see why it wouldn't be doable. Even if you consider it a twisting of the rules, it seems a pretty minor one to me :) |
| Kazgoth04-14-07, 12:51 AM | I also just remembered that in original AD&D Oriental Adventures there was a riding proficiency that had leaping from a mount as part of the skill, perhaps some version of that skill is still kicking around in more recent versions of OA? |
| Slimgauge04-14-07, 10:48 AM | This old thread (http://boards1.wizards.com/wotc_archive/index.php/t-400198.html) has within it what CustServ has to say on the subject. Not that they're always right or anything ... And here's my version of the Mounted Leap Attack feat Mounted Leap Attack [General] (Custom) You have trained your mount to leap during your charge. Prerequisites: Ride 8 ranks, Power Attack, Mounted Combat Benefit: You can combine a jump by your mount with a mounted charge against an opponent. If your mount covers at least 10 feet of horizontal distance with its jump, and you end the jump in a square from which you and/or your mount threaten your target, you can double the extra damage dealt by your use of the Power Attack feat. If you use this tactic with a lance, you instead triple the extra damage from Power Attack. This feat will stack with another feat or class ability that increases the base charge damage but does not stack with other feats that affect extra damage from power attack or with Cavalry Charger. If your mount has the power attack feat and can also attack as part of your charge, it may deal extra damage from its own use of power attack. This attack must follow all the normal rules for using the ride skill to urge your mount to jump and for making a charge, except that you ignore rough terrain in any squares your mount jumps over. |
| Ulandorf_TheBlue04-15-07, 10:35 PM | There's a skill trick that lets jump from a mount and attack. But I guess you probably want to stay on the mount :) |
| runestar04-15-07, 10:51 PM | I like the visual of your mount charging or leaping into the air, then you standing on its saddle and leaping from your mount towards your foe. Reminds me of a scene from 555...:D |
