When learning a Metamagic feat, do you have to learn it for a Specific Spell or do you simply learn the feat "cart-blanche"? eg: Mialee wants to learn the Quicken Metamagic feat. does she learn the feat "Quicken Spell" or does she learn "Quicken Fireball"? Now the Books say that during preparation time (for a Wizard), he needs to decide whick spell he is learning. So he can learn Fireball at base level OR he can learn the Quickened Fireball. Both valid spells... Or is the Feat simply "Quicken" and during preparation he can quicken fireball, or Detect Magic, or Magic Missile, or any other spell that he has... There are reasons and evidence for both sides in the PHB and SRD, so I'd like to know the "definitive" answer... (before I make a house rule!) Thanks. |

Of course, chances are a new player won't be able to find the meta-SLA feats. But anyways, it's a basic question that is obvious once you read the feat with confidence in your ability to find WotC weasel-words (or their lack, in the case of the basic metamagic feats). |
