| Mondragon04-10-07, 05:37 PM | Dear all, I would like to know how the Lingering Song feat (Complete Adventurer, page 111) works in conjunction with a masterwork horn (Complete Adventurer, page 126). Can you simply stack the effects? In other words, do you get an additional +1 moral bonus for 1 minute? How do you take into account the fact that the horn would reduce the duration of the bardic music from 5 rounds to 1 round while the feat extend it from 5 rounds to 10 rounds? Is this a way to get rid of the duration penality? Please, let me know if you have any idea or suggestions. Best regards, Maudragon |

So using a masterwork horn doesn't cut the residual effect of Inspire Courage short. The buff still lasts for the full 5 rounds, post-performance, but the +1 bonus from the horn only applies for the first round. The music then provides it's regular bonus for the remaining 4. So it seems like Lingering song still extends the after-performance duration of the buffing music for the full minute, but the extra +1 bonus provided by the horn ends after the first round of that minute. For the remaining 9 rounds, the lingering effect is that of the base music ability. A more lenient reading (Lingering Song doubles the post-performance duration of the listed special abilities) would increase the horn bonus to 2 rounds. Which way you go depends, naturally, on your GM. Example: Lv 15 Bard with a masterwork horn uses Inspire Courage. As long as he plays, and for one round after he stops, his allies gain +4 to saves vs. charm and fear effects and +4 to attack and Damage. For the remaining 9 rounds of the extended duration, they only benefit from a +3 bonus. That would change to two and eight rounds, respectively, if you go with the 'lingering song doubles all durations' reading. |
