What's a nice way to get move silently as a class skill on a wizard? I'm looking for something organic and non-abusive if possible. Ran across daggerspell mage and unseen seer, neither seemed quite right.

I'm making a pretty straight wizard build, only want to take one prestige class if possible (with maybe archmage at the end as a second). Playing 1 to whatever, probably high levels.

Mostly I want it to be able to sneak around with the party rogue. Hide isn't an issue, I'm thinking wand of invisibility for that, but zone of silence is kinda clunky. So, any thoughts?

Human Paragon with the Able Learner feat.

Not bad. The entire unearthed arcana book is sort of taboo around here. "they've gone too far" kinda thing. If I can't come up with anything else, might try for it I guess.

Cross-class skill ranks, high dex, dex enhancement item, cloak of elvenkind.

I know you want it as a class skill, but given enough cc ranks and some dex plus a skill enhancing item, you should be in pretty good shape overall. If you absolutely need to be silent, you can always get your cleric (assuming you have one in the group) to put silence on a coin and just tuck the coin in your pocket when you need to cast spells.

Another idea might be to just ask your DM to let you have it as a skill. Or possibly work up a spell, feat, or other ability you can get to help you out in your sneaking about. (Besides the obvious feats of skill focus and stealthy)

Also, keep in mind someone/something with see invis will spot you pretty quickly through your invis if you aren't trying to Hide as well.

Something beats everything, not only do I accept it, I dig it. Human paragon looks pretty good, I think I can get it by. Thanks.

I believe there's a feat in Heroes of Battle or the PHB 2 (I think its' Guerilla Warrior) that lets you purchase cross-class ranks in Hide and Move Silently for 1 skill point. Then take a Cat famaliar (+3 move silently), play a halfling (+3 move silently), grab some boots of elvinkind (+5) and you'll be nearly as good as a rogue by spending a single feat (and some skill points).

At first level you could potentially have a 7+dex mod to move silently.

If you want feats as well then of course there's stealthy and skill focus for another +5 total.

You could always just take a level or three of rogue with the intent to become an Arcane Trickster or a Daggerspell Mage(Complete Adventurer I believe).

If you absolutely need to be silent, you can always get your cleric (assuming you have one in the group) to put silence on a coin and just tuck the coin in your pocket when you need to cast spells. How is that supposed to help you? Your pocket gives the object with the Silence spell concealment, which does nothing. But cloth doesn't provide cover against sound waves, which is what should be required to shut off the effect.

why not just use zone of silence, or the silence spells, and stay a straight forward caster...?

level 1: human Rogue, Able Learner (,Practiced Caster)
level 2-5: wizard
level 6: Unseen Seer

Take Wiz 5 for the extra bonus feat,
Practiced Caster will negate the Unseen Seer penalty on caster levels.

End up casting as a 20th level wizard.
What's not to like?

For BAB:
Rogue 1/Wiz 5/ Unseen Seer 10/ Abjurant Champion 4

For Sneak Attack:
end with Arcane Trickster 4

For Evasion:
go with 4 levels of Divine Oracle: Evasion, Uncanny Dodge and the Oracle Domain (take 2 levels if you don't care about Uncanny)

I honestly can't tell what's wrong with Unseen Seer.
3/4 BAB, 6+Int Skillpoint, full caster progression, guarded mind at level 5,...
Combine it with Hunter's Eye from PHBII for some mad sneaking.

But cloth doesn't provide cover against sound waves, which is what should be required to shut off the effect.Since it is an emanation, LoE (rather than sound waves) must be blocked (example: a tower shield could block it). Many people rule that pockets and containers block LoE, as they are solid objects with no holes and follow the standard rules for LoE (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/glossary&term=Glossary_dnd_lineofeffect&alpha=L):
"Line of effect is just like line of sight, except line of effect ignores restrictions on visual ability."

Basically, a paper (or saran wrap) wall would block line LoE.

If in doubt, you could always put it in your handy haversack (which effectively puts it on another plane, breaking LoE).
