Mage Slayer reduces your effective caster lvl by 4, The practiced spellcaster feat(forgive me if I miss named it I am AWB at the moment) increases your effective caster lvl by 4 not to exceed your hit dice. The feat was meant for a person to get missing caster lvls back from multiclassing keeping his magic at the same strength. Will the one override the penalty of the other allowing a Gish to still use his magic at near full stregth and still have Mage Slayer? |
| CrimsonDeath02-02-08, 12:01 PM | Yes. A level 5 Duskblade with Practiced Spellcaster and Mage Slayer will have a total caster level of 5. I understand that Mage Slayer reduces all your caster levels, but Practiced Spellcaster only applies to one caster level, so it's not as good a combination for a Mystic Theurge or other dual-progression class. You may also want to check with your DM to see if Mage Slayer affects a psionic character's Manifester Level. |
| Hida Reju02-02-08, 12:21 PM | We use full transparency for all Psionic/Magic anyway so it works the same for manifesting on the defensive as well as long as you have 2 ranks in Psicraft and Spellcraft. But this raises interesting questions on single class gish or mage/cleric/druid class types that want to beat down mages. Since it works on divine spell casters I would be willing to burn 2 feats to hurt mages with no change to my caster lvl. I may have to explore this further. |
