| Arameas05-09-07, 04:23 PM | Ok then, we are about to start a high level campaign (12) and most of my class levels are in ranger (rogue 3/ranger 6/ Shadow dancer 3 Halfling) and as I have rapid shot and many shot I was wondering what I could do with it. Can you combine rapid shot and many shot in the same round... Ie Fire three arrows (BAB +11/+6 with +5 dex) and three diffrent targets? If you can have I got the penalties right.. Rapid shot is a minus two to each attack, and many shot is a minus 4 so I have +17/+12 normally +15/+15/+10 for rapid +11/+11/+6 for rapid and many is this right? |
| tarkin05-09-07, 04:28 PM | 1. Many shot does NOT increase the number of arrows you can fire. Instead it lets you move and fire during the same round. (I know it looks like it increases the # of arrows, but compare using it with not using it. Trust me, no additional arrows, just movement - and at a penalty to hit also.) 2. Many shot requires a Standard Action, so no it does not work with Rapid Shot (which requires a full attack action). 3. You can target multiple enemeies. You could send each arrow to an entirely different target if you choose. If you use Many Shot, they must all be within 30ft of each other. 4. A Rogue 3/Ranger6/Shadow Dancer 3 has a BAB of 10, not 11. (Magic, etc. does not count as BAB, that is TAB) With that BAB of 10, you get 10/5 (Full attack, no feats). With Rapid Shot you get one more: 8/8/3. Many Shot would be 6/1, but let you move either before or after your attacks. P.S. Rouge is make-up. Rogue is a character class. This is a common spelling error that people like to laugh at. |

So surely you are firing two arrows at once. Which means that if you have two attacks, that you can fire a total of four arrows in one round. |
| tarkin05-09-07, 04:53 PM | Your last sentence is false. Manyshot lets you fire two arrows as a standard action, not as an attack. You only get one Standard Action per round, no matter how high your BAB is. The fact that you normally get two attacks does not let you fire two arrows twice. The routine is: I use Many Shot. I move 30 ft then fire two arrows at a penalty of -4. My turn ends.. You don't get two sets of 2 arrows, you just get two arrows, period. |

It certainly does increase the number of arrows you can fire with a single attack roll. |
| AtmaWeapon05-09-07, 09:19 PM | Can we qualify that and say "Many shot does not increase the total number of arrows you can fire in a given turn"? How about "Many Shot does increase the total number of arrows you can fire by utilizing a single standard action." That statement should be fully accurate. |
| BugHunter05-09-07, 11:29 PM | This is straight from the FAQ. Can other feats like Precise Shot and Rapid Shot be used in connection with Manyshot? Precise Shot, yes; Rapid Shot, no. The latter requires the full attack action, and using Manyshot is a standard action. This should answer the question. |
| Nom05-10-07, 12:49 AM | How about "Many Shot does increase the total number of arrows you can fire by utilizing a single standard action." That statement should be fully accurate.... but misses the point of Tarkin's contrast. Normal ranged full attack: BAB 1-5: 1 arrow (BAB) BAB 6-10: 2 arrows (BAB, BAB-5) BAB 11-15: 3 arrows (BAB, BAB-5, BAB-10) BAB 16-20: 4 arrows (BAB, BAB-5, BAB-10, BAB-15) Manyshot: BAB 1-5: N/A BAB 6-10: 2 arrows (BAB-4, x2 hit) BAB 11-15: 3 arrows (BAB-6, x3 hit) BAB 16-20: 4 arrows (BAB-8, x4 hit) Interestingly, against a low AC target Manyshot can have a greater mean damage than a normal full attack. Though if you miss you miss big. |
