Hello,

I was wondering, assuming a non martial adept character took the martial study feat to gain Burning Blade once per encounter. What happens if this character also purchases a Cloak of the Desert Wind with Bruning Blade?

Could she use Bruning Blade twice per encounter?

I am also very interested in an answer to this question. Also, I could not see what recovery method is used for those items.

Based on a strict reading, it would seem that 1 source will be wasted. This is because the cloak grants the maneuver automatically after 24 hours, rather than you choosing when to access it (contrast this with eternal blade's eternal training, where you can choose the exact timing when you want to access the extra maneuver). So it would overlap, rather than grant you an additional use.

ToB also appears to expressly forbid knowing a maneuver twice (unless it is via a combination of 2 or more martial classes).

So I suppose that unless you enter a fighter exactly 23 hours, 59 minutes and 48 seconds after entering said fight, and expend your maneuver within the 1st round...:P

Also, I could not see what recovery method is used for those items.

I assume it would be the same recovery method you use. So if you are not a martial class, you can only use it 1/encounter, without recovery.

Since it's from two different sources, it acts like if you had Warblade and Swordsage levels and took charging minotaur twice. You can freely use it twice per encounter. Now, if the build for the items said it granted you the maneuver as if you had taken the martial study feat, you would be SoL.

And in this case, which recovery method would be used? Always use the recovery method you do not already possess? Seems sort of weird...

Anyhow, I think it would be utter dumbness that a martial practitioner shouldn't be able to utilize items made for them, so I would likely go with your look, with the exception that the recovery method would be equal to your current one.

Would you allow a Warblade/Swordsage/Crusader the ability to use Charging Minotaur four times in a row, because he learned it "separately" from 3 classes and a Martial Study feat?

He could use it thrice, because they are each learnt, and readied via a separate class.

However, the cloak just adds the maneuver to your existing list of maneuvers known. The aforementioned example is just plain irrelevant and misleading.:(

Even if you have multiple initiator classes, you can not know a given maneuver more than once - that much has been made clear by official sources.

So you'd get nowhere by selecting Burning Blade with the cloak if you already had it with Martial Study.

So you mean that if I am a warblade/swordsage multiclass, I cannot learn and ready the same diamond mind maneuver, say - mind over body twice (one for warblade, one for swordsage)?

Correct a maneuver is either known or not know. You can't learn it multiple times using different classes.

They are also either readied or not readied, so you can't ready the same maneuver twice even if you are a multiclass initiator.

Fair enough, I learn something new every day.:)

Without a specific recovery method, maneuvers are usable once per encounter.

'Official sources'? Care to point them out? Cause if it's CustServ or the FAQ, unless they give a damned convincing reason I'm like to outright ignore this.

Somewhere in the ToB it says you can only learn a maneuver once. I don't have the page number off the top of my head but when I get the time I'll find it and post it.
