Hi Guys,

We read the PHB-rule that said you can use MW item for the +2 increase of skills. A couple of examples (healing, disguise etc) are given, but players are free to use it for other skills aswell.

From there we started to discuss which skill can be enhanced skills and which ones not. The main discussion was about:

- bluff (handbook?)
- concentration (headband?)
- diplomacy (handbook?)
- gather info (handbook?)
- intimidate (handbook?)
- sense motive (handbook?)
- tumble (spandex?)
- jump (good footwear with grip?)

and what we though was not possible was:
- listen
- spot

What kind of rule do you use?

spot -> spy glass should

listen -> ear horn

any skill can be magically done of course.

spot -> spy glass should

listen -> ear horn

any skill can be magically done of course. I beg to differ. Spot and Listen are skill that are mainly used for noticing things when you're not *actively* looking/listening.

A spyglass woudl work for Search, but not for Spot IMO. And nobody will walk around with two ear horn attached to his ears (although that woudl be funny). It *is* usable when actively hearing through a door (for exmaple).

- bluff ... intimidating weapon or clothing (ala gang symbols, or a really big honking battle axe with blood dripping off it)

- concentration ... type of good luck charm (I can't do it with out my rabbit's foot!)

- diplomacy ... clothing again

- gather info ... handbook? yes! or maybe some data given to you of where to look and ask questions

- intimidate ... clothing again

- sense motive ... no idea

- tumble ... MW armor (already done)

- jump ... good footwear with grip? ... I like this idea

don't forget the situational affect either ... what may give +2 diplomacy vs waterdeep city guards may mean nothing to someone from shadowdale

Spot: Bifocal Spectacles. +2 to spot checks all times.

Listen: Make up some goofy looking headgear to go on his ears. This causes everyone that sees him to break out laughing, making listen checks much easier.

Spot: Bifocal Spectacles. +2 to spot checks all times. I'm not quite sure what this is, but it's probably something my gnome would come up with.
