In the game I am currently GMing there is a fighter who have an ambition to become a master weaponsmith (and lately armorsmith as well). So we got the idea of him seaking knowledge from various smiths during the parties travels.

Here are the modifications I have come up with so far. These modifications must be added at item creation and can only be added if the item being made is masterwork. Furthermore it is difficult to make more than one modification to an item, increase craft DC as following when more than one mod is added.
2 modifications +1
3 modifications +3
4 modifications +6
5 modifications +10
6 modifications +15
_____

NAME OF MODIFICATION [Type]
Desription.

Benefit: The modification's benefit
Drawback: The modification's drawbacks
Prerequisite: Prerequisite.
Craft: Changes to craft DC and price.
_____

ELVEN BLADECRAFT [Melee]
These blades are perfectly balanced to make them optimal for quick feints and agile manuvers. They are however more brittle than other blades and chip easily if not cared for.

TWIN WEAPONS [Melee]
This type of weapons are always made as a pair, they have been made specifically with two weapon fighting in mind and are optimized for this purpose.

Benefit: When using both weapons of a twin weapon set the two weapon fighting penalties are reduced by 1.
Drawback: none
Prerequisite: Craft (weaponsmith) 6 ranks.
Craft: Increase the Craft DC by 4 and price by 50 gp (for each weapon).

RESILIENT [Armor, Weapon, Shield, Item]
You know how to increase the impact resistence of metal items at the cost of tensil strength.

Drawback: The item lose a number of hit points equal to the hardness increase.
Prerequisite: Craft (appropiate skill for the item) 9 ranks
Craft: Increase the craft DC by 2 (+1), 3 (+3) or 4 (+5) and cost by 50 (+1), 100 (+3) or 150 (+5).

DWARWENCRAFT [Armor, Weapon, Shield, Item]
The dwarfs have developed a method to make metal items far thougher and stronger than normal.
Restriction: Item must be made of metal.
Benefit: Same as in RoS (page 159).
Drawback: none
Prerequisite: Craft (appropiate skill for the item) 12 ranks
Craft: Increase the Craft DC by 6 and price by 300 gp (for weapons) or 150 gp (for armor and shields).

GREATER MASTERWORK [Weapon]
These weapons cause more damage than normal.

Good idea. Keep up the good work, as I would like to see more of these fine modifications.

At the moment no, but when they get a bit higher in level (or I feel like making an evil plot twist), they might very well. So please put some up, I could use some inspiration.

I'm tinking of making some armor modifications as well. Will post them as soon as I get them writen down.

IGNAN IMBUEMENT
Inspired by the Efreeti's and Salamander of the Fire plane you learn to trap some of the heat of your smithy in your crafts.
Weapon Restriction: Cannot be applied to light weapons
Weapon Benefit: +1 fire damage for 1 handed weapons, +3 for 2 handed weaons.
Armor Restriction: Cannot be applied to heavy armor
Armor Benefit: Absorbs the first 3 fire damage from any attack for light armor, and the first 5 for Medium.
Drawback:For armor Water spells due extra damage equal to the amount of fire you absorb, for weapons the fire energy is absorbed by creatures of the Fire subtype, healing them for the extra damage and rendering your blade heatless for 3 rounds. Hardness is also decreased by 1 for all items crafted this way due to their increased standing temperature.
Prereq: Craft (Armor or Weapon smithing) 15 ranks, Weapons Craft DC increases by 5 and takes 1.5 the normal amount of time to craft. Armor DC increases by 6, cost increases by 200GP for Light and 400 for medium.

There's the first, if it meets with your standards let me know(I've actually used this is a campaign where a character was working with a Noble Flame Brother)(I threw the armor side in as that's what I was doing, the numbers may need to change depending on the party's level)

That is pretty good, although I think the wording need to be a bit more clear.

It actually gave me a briliant idea. I will try making some modifications that requires the item to be made on specific planes.

Yah, I'm still not really awake, I'll clean it up as soon as I stop yawning and the keys on my keyboard actually stay on the keys...

Keep it up and you could make a living off of writing RPG game material.;)
