| NightHawkFalconis07-18-07, 08:49 PM | Hi all, I'm working on putting together a highly skilled character, and I decided to try to find tools that would give bonuses to skill checks--all of them. However, I'm trying to find tools that might give bonuses to harder-to-imagine skills, like Sense Motive. I mean, what object could possibly give me a bonus to that? A masterwork skeptical look? A masterwork librarian's glare? You tell me. Anyway, despite goofy title of this thread, I'm honestly trying to brainstorm some viable solutions. Specifically, I'm looking for the nonmagical circumstance bonuses you can get for a measly 50 gp. My list of skills for which I have no masterwork {enter item here} is as follows: Balance Bluff Concentration Decipher Script Diplomacy Gather Information Intimidate Sense Motive Sleight of Hand Spellcraft Tumble Use Magic Device ... Aaand that's that. Any help would be greatly appreciated, even if it is only humorous ^^ |

It still won't tell you when they are lying, but it might help a bit. That would be more than 50gp, unless you just go with like a stethoscope (and a compliant target). Gather Information: A stiff drink or two. Balance has a pole in Complete Adventurer I think, that gives you a bonus. Decipher Script: Maybe a little pocket-sized book with different common alphabets, like a Rosetta stone. Slight of Hand has things like Finger Blades that let you cut purse strings easily, in Arms and Equipment Guide and I think other books also. Intimidate: A big, fake (real?) scar. Concentration: Maybe a bracelet or something that continuously causes your a slight pain you can focus on? Bluffs can usually be aided by a well-forged or stolen document. Wearing the right clothes for the occasion sometimes boosts your Diplomacy. |

Probably best to just call these "kits" and leave it at that. Balance - A balance pole, soft-soled split-sole shoes, resin bag Bluff - Travel papers, official documents, small baubles and flasks of wine for bribes, a saint's medallion from the god of thieves Concentration - A brass coin on a chain for self-hypnosis; a mandala Decipher Script - A dictionary or guide Diplomacy - Credentials; letters of introduction from the king; fine clean clothing; cosmetic makeup Gather Information - Baubles and wine flasks for bribes; a mark of favor from the beggar's guild Intimidate - Big shoulderpads, spiked gloves, spiky daggers, initimidating clothes Sense Motive - A "self-help" book, a badge of civic authority, a saint's medal from the god of justice Sleight of Hand - false finger-tip, finger knife, resin bag Spellcraft - A codex; a focussing crystal; a prism Tumble - A resin bag; split-toed shoes; fingerless gloves with wrist support Use Magic Device - lucky charms; a saint's medallion from the god of magic |
