Plain and simple lets say I have a level 5 warriar and for my next level i take 1 level in rogue. Now how do I figure out the maximum ranks I can stick into my rogue skills? And do they now become class skills if I go higher levels in warriar?

If a skill is a class skill for ANY of your classes, its maximum rank is your character level +3. However, for determining costs to buy ranks, use the class-skill list of whatever class you are currently leveling up in.

So let me see if I have this right

Lets say I have 5 levels of Warriar, and I take my next level I pick up 1 level of Barbarian

So I'm effective character level 6, so Max Skill rank would be 6+3 = 9

My intellegenc is 12 so +1 to each skill point per level

I have 4 ranks in Intimidate becouse its a fighter skill

and I just picked up 1 level of Barbarian so i get Survival now.

When I pick up barbarian I get 5 skill points which have to go in Barbarian Skills class only otherwise I pay double for cross class skills correct?

So I put all 5 into Survival. Now what happends if I get another level in Fighter, is Survival a class skill that I can stick all 3 points into or is it a cross class skill at that time?

A skill that was at any point a Class Skill for you is forevermore limited to Character Level + 3 in Ranks. The cost of each rank depends on the current class, however.

Buying skill points depends on your current class and only your current class. If it is a class skill, it costs 1. If it is not a class skill, it costs 2. So when you again level as a Fighter, ignore the fact you have a level of Rouge when you buy class skills. Imagine you only have levels in Fighter and buy as if you only had class skills of the Fighter.

You do gain one benefit of cross classing with different class skills. The maximum ranks is equal to level+3 for any skill that is a class skill for any of your classes instead of (level+3)/2.

So I put all 5 into Survival. Now what happends if I get another level in Fighter, is Survival a class skill that I can stick all 3 points into or is it a cross class skill at that time?

You put the 3 points into Survival at 7th for Fighter and get 1.5 ranks. This brings your total ranks in Survival to 6.5.

I've actually ruled that class skills from multiclassing stack. That means, even if you advance in a class that doesn't get skill x, you treat it as a class skill.

so what you are asking is, with a 4th level warrior/1 Barbarian, would the max ranks able for survival be 8?(hd+3) to my knowledge it would be 3 for your barbarian level, then 2 for Cross-classed warrior... giving you a max ranks of 5. and if you took another level in warrior your max would be 5.5 due to C-Cing and on the other side your warrior max ranks would be 7.5, and with a level up in it the max for your 6th level character would be 8, but for skills that are both warrior and barbarian would still be class levels +3...

Did i confuse anyone???

Yes me.

If you have A, B, C as skills in Fighter.
You add A, D, E, F as skills in Rogue.

Your max ranks for A, B, C, D, E, F are all hit dice + 3.

You either pay 1 per rank or 2 per rank depending on if the skill is a class skill for the class you are buying ranks.

So a 4th level Fighter has Intimidate 0 ranks and Survival 0 ranks, then as your 5th level take a level of Barbarian and gets a total of 8 ranks to spend, he can:
1) Make his survival 8 ranks by spending 8 skill points.
2) Make his Intimidate 4 ranks by spending 8 skill points.
3) Make his survival 4 ranks by spending 4 points then make his Intimidate 2 ranks by spending 4 skill points.

Any deviation from this is a house rule. Allowing all skills to be bought for 1 point instead of 2 points when cross class (like Imreallyagreatredwyrm suggested) is giving everyone a Free Feat (Able Learner.)

I will reiterate what other have said, as it is now getting confusing.

When you multiclass, all class skills from all your classes have an upper limit of your class levels +3.

The only thing to note is, that if, at your next level, you choose a class that does not typically have the skill you want to train as a class skill, ranks will cost double, as it is cross class for the level you just took.

Your level 5 Fighter, level 1 Barbarian will have a maximum skill rank possible of 9. If your next level is fighter, and you still wish to train Survival (which is not a class skill for the fighter) and points you put into Survival will count as cross class, and cost double. If you have enough skill points though, you could still raise it to your new maximum of 10 ranks though, it is just expensive to do so.

If you plan on continuing to multiclass, you will get the most value from taking turns leveling up and training the class skills for the class you level up. So, you would get the most bang for your skill point buck by only training Survival when you take Barbarian levels, because it is a class skill for the Barbarian.

Max ranks are forever your level +3, if at one point in your career you took a class that had it as a class skill.

bolded for emhpasis.
up untill recently i thought once a class skill-allways a class skil. but on the last page of "Classes" in the PHB, in the first collumn, under multi classing, it says otherwise.
if you have 5 lvls of fighter and take a lvl in rogue, you have 8+int skills that can go into rogue skills at 100%value (1 popint for 1 rank) or anything other than rogue skills at 50% value (each point is 1/2 rank)

if you wer to take another lvl of fighter, gather info would not be a class skilll for that lvl worth of skill points.

hope i helped
