Looking for ideas to help me boost my perform to the max.

I can use anything except UA and LM, as long as its WotC material, and is not custom (custom rings of +skill).

Note, the book specifically mentions that the items listed are just examples, and also lists the pricing formula and limits of + rings.

One thing you can do is use masterwork instruments :P

Ye I totally agree but my DM doesnt. I can understand him partially since you can make some epic checks really early or get the really imba UMD +30 :p

It's real easy. Get a masterwork instrument, that's a +1 (or +2 for a nice magical instrument). Take Versatile Performer, which allows you to sing and play at the same time as an additional +2. Then if you want, the feat Skill Focus for an additional +2. Anything that boosts Charisma will increase your check.

I'm playing a Bard now, and at 15th level his perform is at +30. Hurrah 3d6 Gold for not rolling a 1.

The Nymph's Kiss feat (Book of Exalted Deeds) gives +2 on all Charisma-related rolls, but it is a fairly overpowered feat.

Are you playing as a bard? There are options available for boosting Perform that I'm aware of, but many of them involve other classes. Bards do have the improvisation and master's touch spells for gaining +1/2 caster level and +4 to a skill check, respectively.

Master's touch only seems to grant you proficiency with an item held.

Too bad nymph's kiss is a circumstance bonus, although I am not sure if a circumstance bonus for "all charisma rolls" stacks with a bonus specific to perform? any ideas?

Circumstance bonuses don't stack, even if one bonus is a general all CHA skills and one is a specific skill.

There's the Arcane Flourish feat from PHB2 that lets you burn a spell to get a competence bonus on your next Perform check.

And the Dragonsong feat from Draconomicon gives an untyped +2 bonus. It's a general feat; the only dragon-type pre-req is Speak Language (Draconic).

There's a bunch of Regional Forgotten Realms feats that, along with other benefits, give untyped benefits to Perform: Artist (PGtF), Harem Trained (RoF), and Oral History (RoF).

If you happen to be a Dwarf (unlikely), there's Moradin's Smile from RoS that gives an untyped +2 bonus on all Cha-based skill checks.

OA has several Ancestor feats that give an untyped +2 bonus to Perform and something else: Many Masks, Powerful Voice, and Karmic Twin.

There are actually two spells with that name in 3.5, and I think that Chimaera is referring to the other version. (The one that you're referring to is SC 139, and the other is PH2 119.)

However, the latter one does not work in this case, because it can't apply to checks that last longer than one round (Craft, Perform, etc.).

Just curious, but why? At some point it will be good enough. If used as a will saves at +25 or so, virtually nothing will likely beat it. For most everything else, the actual check isn't that useful?

Cloak of Charisma +2, +4, +6.
Circlet of Persausion +3
Skill Focus (Perform: X) +3
Masterwork Instrument +2
Luck Stone +1

You can get something like +14 or so before your normal charisma and ranks. Some potions might also give bonuses to skill checks. Guidance or something. However, for the exponential price you'll pay you could easily hire ten bards to provide you with assists.

Heroism grants a +2 morale bonus to skill checks. Greater heroism ups that to +4.

There are items with saves dependent on your perform, for example in MoF, and some bard music saves too. A higher DC is always useful. Also as you start to get your perform skill really high you can influence npcs attitudes to fanatic level, - willing to die for you, which can prove quite handy :)

Ok, but perform checks will always be ahead of most will saves. Ranks always put you ahead of even the best will saves and there are far more things which can boast skill checks over will saves.

Ranks always go up faster than base saves and there are typically more ways to easily increase perform checks than will saves. Even the best cleric is going to have a hard time against skill focus (perform), max ranks, a good charisma, and circlet of persasion. Even with iron will, a cloak of resistance, and some expensive wisdom enhancement items, he honestly can't keep up. Most other classes are completely in trouble.

i.e. at some point, save the gold and use it to round out your character. Undead, constructs, and creatures immune to mind effecting stuff have been known to come alone.

Perform does not influence attitudes. That would be diplomacy.

It does influence it, check ELH page 42 for details.

As for saves, depends whats the average CL creatures you fight in your campaign, and what buffs they are using. As for me, I prefer to be on the safe side, and try to have opponents fail even with a 19.

As for undead and so on, its nothing new, same goes for all will save spells etc..

Both do actually.

You will require a perform check of +150 to be able to sway the attitude of a hostile person to fanatic. That is really the only safe threshold in dnd, so don't feel content with anything lower than that...:P

Nothing is ever enough! :p but even neutral characters in a whole town hearing your song, its just so cool to make them all become your fanatical followers! :p
