| tyrecian04-17-07, 06:41 PM | so i was posting and realized that i don't really know the ruling on this, and dont have my books with me and such... so here goes. If you have a metamagic feat, and memorize the spell wiith it, then use Scribe Scroll feat, can you make a scroll of a metamagic'ed spell, much like a wand of the same thing? If so, can rods be used upon the making of the scroll to give metamagic to a scroll spell. Can two metamagics be used on the same spell? (anytime, even casting? like an Extended, Maximized, Sudden Empowerred Ice Storm?) |
| runestar04-17-07, 10:26 PM | Yes, but remember that the metamagic feat's slot adjustment counts towards the final cost of creating the magic item. For example, a scroll of maximized enervation is treated as a 7th lv spell, and the minimum caster lv required is 13. Market price is 7*13*25 gp. Likewise, the final lv of the spell counts towards item lv limits. For example, you cannot craft a wand of extended icestorm since that is treated as the equivalent of a 5th lv spell, and wands can only hold 4th lv spells max. Same for rods, but I would that the slot adjustment will still apply normally. Thus, an enervation maximized with a rod of maximize is still treated as a 7th lv spell accordingly, not 4th.:) |

What about the 'sudden' feats like sudden maximize, that don't change the spells level. Would that make it more expensive? Ok the obvious answer is "It costs more. Too powerfull otherwise..." But it didnt' say that in the feet description... Is there a discount for that maybe? or is it even possible with the 'sudden' feats. I ask because i JUST discovered that making my own scrolls can really help me out, and the only metamagic feats i have are sudden extend and sudden maximize. |
| runestar04-17-07, 11:27 PM | This is covered in the FAQ. Can sudden metamagic feats (from Complete Arcane) be used to scribe scrolls or craft wands that include the metamagic effect? If so, how would you calculate the cost (since sudden metamagic feats don’t alter the level of the spell)? You can use a sudden metamagic feat in item creation; the cost to create the item would be just as if you were using the regular metamagic feat. For instance, using your Sudden Widen feat to create a scroll of widened fireball would cost as much as a scroll of a 6th-level spell (which is what a widened fireball is). The act of creating the scroll or wand would expend your daily use of Sudden Widen (since the act of creation triggers the spell, making it unavailable for casting). |
