Double Spell (meta-magic)

Prepare two spells in one slot

Prerequisite: Ability to prepare spells

Benefit: You may prepare two spells in one spell slot. When you cast the spell you only cast one of the spells prepared, but you may choose which spell to cast at the time of casting. You do not cast the other spell. A Double Spell uses up a spell slot one level higher than the higher level of the two spells prepared.

Normal: You may only prepare one spell per spell slot.

There's an Alternate Class Feature in Dungeonscape like that... Sorta. It's for Generalist Wizards, and for 1 spell/spell level. And you get one in shade (or indoors) and one outside.

It seems okay at +1. Though it seems more fitting as a 3 spells / day thing, instead of as a Metamagic (with no increase).

I like the idea, but dislike the name. It sounds like Repeat spell or Twin spell.

How about something with more flair?

Navar's Choice.

...

Uh yeah, no. Completely overpowered.

Sacrifice 1 spell slot of each level to approach sorcerer spells per day?

With this feat, what exactly is the benefit to playing a sorcerer? Thier whole shtick is they take a progression hit to cast more spells per day.

Sorry, but this is just trying to get the best of both worlds.

You don't get extra spells per day from this feat. You just get a slot filled with 2 spells, of which you pick 1 at casting.

I'd name it Spell Folder as a general feat or Partitioned Spell as a Metamagic.

If that's the case, then it's fine. Should be reworded so it is less ambiguous. You don't cast "Slots", you cast spells. By the wording on this and the way they interface with the RAW, you would cast one spell, which would leave the other still prepared and available for casting.

And this isn't a metamagic feat. Metamagic feats alter the way a spell is cast or the effect, not how it is prepared. This would be a general feat, in the same vein as spell mastery.

Benefit: You may prepare two spells in one spell slot. When you cast the spell you may only cast one of the spells prepared, but you may choose which spell to cast at the time of casting. The other spell is wiped from memory as if it had been cast.

Less ambigious wording.

Benefit: You may prepare two spells in a single spell slot. For a number of spell slots equal to 3+Int Mod, you may instead opt to fill them with two spells of a lower level then the slot chosen. When you cast the spell you may still only cast one of the spells prepared, but you may choose which spell to cast at the time of casting. The other spell is wiped from memory as if it had been cast.

Even better.

Semantics

"you only cast one of the spells prepared" means the other spell prepared is gone. It's reinforced with "You do not cast the other spell".

Nothing personal, but you're talking about adding rules. Semantics are important. "You only cast one of the spells prepared" says nothing about what happens to the other spell, and "you do not cast the other spell" again says nothing about the other spell. Both statements speak only of the present, and nothing about the future.

No need to get defensive.

I like "Choice Spell" as an alternative name.
