Which feat was it that allows you reduce the level adjustment of metamagic-ed spells?

Arcane Thesis is the one that springs to mind. PHB2.

Epic or non-epic?

In epic, Improved Metamagic reduces the slot adjustment of all metamagic by one level to a minimum of +1. (It doesn't affect stuff that's already +1 or +0.) It requires you to take four metamagic feats, however.

In non-epic, Practical Metamagic does the same thing, but only for a single feat. It doesn't require four metamagic feats, but it does require spontaneous casting.

Metamagic School Focus does it for spells of a specific school, limited to three per day.

Pracitcal Metamagic, Metamagic School Focus, Arcane Thesis, Divine Metamagic, and Easy Metamagic. There are probably more. You really should just do a search on the CharOp boards...I'm sure they have a list somewhere. ;)
