Small question,

In the PHB Metamagic feats extend the time on a spell when applied -on the spot-. The book does not say this, but I will guess here that lets say you want to cast a magic missile spell and you apply empower AND maximize on the spell at once. Would that not make the casting time of the magic missile not 1 full round but 2 full rounds. Since im thinking standard action --->1 full round action ----> 2 rounds.

Is this not logical?

I believe that it only increases it once.

Sorcerers and Bards: Sorcerers and bards choose spells as they cast them. They can choose when they cast their spells whether to apply their metamagic feats to improve them. As with other spellcasters, the improved spell uses up a higher-level spell slot. But because the sorcerer or bard has not prepared the spell in a metamagic form in advance, he must apply the metamagic feat on the spot. Therefore, such a character must also take more time to cast a metamagic spell (one enhanced by a metamagic feat) than he does to cast a regular spell. If the spell’s normal casting time is 1 action, casting a metamagic version is a full-round action for a sorcerer or bard. (This isn’t the same as a 1-round casting time.)
For a spell with a longer casting time, it takes an extra full-round action to cast the spell.

(It only mentions a single instance with applying ONE metamagic feat to a spell.)

Multiple Metamagic Feats on a Spell: A spellcaster can apply multiple metamagic feats to a single spell. Changes to its level are cumulative. You can’t apply the same metamagic feat more than once to a single spell.

(This being a general rule for any prepared or spontanious caster.)

From what I am reading it is possible to have a spell take more than a full round to cast due to the spell alone being 1 full round to cast or further.

So, does applying more than one metamagic feat take longer to cast since you are casting on the fly? Or does it take equal time to apply one or more metamagic feats to a spell under the logic of: its the same motion as one metamagic feat?

See, it can be a general statement that adding MM feats for a spon caster takes up a set amount of more time. It does not however say that it does take more time to use more MM feats.

The FAQ says :If a spontaneous spellcaster applies two metamagic feats to a spell does the casting time increase to 2 rounds?
Applying additional metamagic feats to a spell does not further increase the casting time of the spell. A sorcerer casting a still, silent fireball requires only a single full-round action to cast the spell.

Also note it says a full round action, not a full round casting time. Big difference for all casters.

Well is thats what the FAQ says then I will not argue. Afterall, in using metamagic feats you so burn higher level slots.

Thank you so much for the clarification.
