| LordFlatulence07-04-07, 07:23 AM | I can't help but note the quantity of things rushing around about lowering the added level of metamagic feats. My interest is now sparked, yet I am somewhat at a loss to what options I have available along this joyous path. Could anyone list off what they know to reduce metamagic added levels or link me to a compilation of such? If the former, could I also request the source or the context (say, the full description of a feat that it is)? Much obliged! |

| Man-Rata07-04-07, 10:31 AM | Feats: Arcane Thesis from Complete Arcane (I think) - It attaches to a spell, and all Metamagic feats used on that spell is reduced by 1 level. The feat does not say it, but common sense tells you that it can't reduce the level of the spell, and cannot reduce a metamagic feat below +0 levels. Not really broken, unless you try to argument RAW on it. Metamagic School Focus from Complete Mage - You choose a spell school, 3 times you can choose a spell of that school and reduce by 1 level the metamagic feat applied to that spell. It cannot be applied more than once to the same single spell. Pretty good feat, not broken unlike most of these feats in my opion, and i've been a player with most of them. Residual Magic from Complete Mage - Tactical feat, it has two uses, but the second is more or less insane. When you cast a spell with metamagic on it, and then cast the same spell the next round, you can 'Borrow' the metamagic feat from the last casting, without changing the level of the second spell. Persistant spell is suddenly a lot more powerful, as if it wasn't before. I've been a player with this feat, it is broken, badly. Metmagic music (or something like that) from Complete Adventurer - You can spend your bard music to reduce metamagic, the spell could not exceed your normal maximum spell level before being reduced. So no Persistant for bards. In RAW you can use this feat on spells from other classes though. Divine Metamagic from Complete Divine - You choose a metamagic feat, you can now spend turn/rebuke attempts instead of extra levels on the spell, when casting or memorizing a spell using that metamagic feat. There should be the same cap on this as the Bardic Metamagic thing, that the spell shouldn't be able to exceed your present maximum spell level before reduction. And Night Sticks should be slotted with 24 hour duration before used, or banned. There is also some PrC that has abilities that allow you to apply metamagic without level adjustment, the most powerful, and most borderline broken is the Incantatrix. There are others, but can't remember the names, and they're really not that good if I can't remember the names :) |
| The_Vortex07-04-07, 11:39 AM | The Ultimate Magus is nice for Metamagic.. it requires both a spontaneous and a preparing arcane class and you can use spell slots of one of them to apply metamagic to the other.. Really a nice class! As for feats: There is a draconic feat that lets you lower one metamagic feat by one level, but not below +1, so it is best with stuff like empower, or better yet persist, which is then in the range for the ultimate magus ability since you only get 5th level spells with the secondary casting class... |
| LordFlatulence07-05-07, 03:12 AM | Thanks for the responses! Don't worry Grogmir, I was not actually asking for copyright details, I was just wondering about the specifics of the abilities in question. Arcane Thesis and Metamagic School Focus I don't think are in the Complete Arcane, as a friend of mine has that and I've read it quite conclusively. Pretty sure those aren't in it (actually, Metamagic School Focus might be, but I'm pretty sure not). |
| Man-Rata07-05-07, 03:27 AM | Metamagic School Focus is in Complete Mage (not Arcane as written earlier) Arcane Thesis is from PHB II |
