At level one, he takes Imp Grapple instead of Stunning Fist. Does he have to wait until level 11 before he can take Stunning Fist (a prereq is BAB +8)? RAW would seem to suggest he does; but, it really doesn't seem logical. |

RAW would seem to suggest he does; but, it really doesn't seem logical. Unfortunately, a Monk would have to wait. Perhaps it would help if you think of his Bonus Feats as indicating the martial arts style he was trained in, and having to take feats outside of that is as difficult as normal. |
| Hsien08-22-07, 10:58 AM | Unless specifically noted as part of a bonus feat, all pre-reqs must be met. The monk's bonus feats indicate a style of combat they have trained in and do not need to meet the requirments. If the monk does not acquire the feat as a bonus, then all pre-req's must be met before becoming available. So for your example, the monk trained mor ein grappling techniques and was able to take Imp Grapple. Stunning Fist was not as rigourously trained during that timeframe, so it will cost a slot to acquire and the pre-req's met. |

As far as i know it's the only setting that uses this but it would make sense, however the counter argument is that your particular school/monastery/etc only emphasizes certain arts limiting your choices to those listed. |

Spell Penetration has NO prerequisites. A 1st level barbarian could take Spell Penetration if he wanted too. |

But I'm saying as a BONUS feat, a monk shouldn't get spell penetration. Look at oriental adventures for options on monk feat. You can basically choose from a group of feats for 1, 2, and 6th level, without meeting requirements. And you get martial arts styles, which are something to work for but are worth it. I had a Half-Orc Monk that grappled and choked a pit-fiend to death. |
