Is there a feat out there that will increase your power attack to more than a maximum of just 5?
Obi-Wan Shinobi

power attack isnt capped at -5 BAB. you can sack as much BAB as u have. if you have a +20 BAB, you can sack 20 points to do 20 extra damage (or more depending on weapon type, use etc).

you might have it confused with Combat Expertise or you may be playing under a houserule.........

Ahh, k, might have read it in 3.0 book or something, I remember it being max 5, thanks.

Only place I've seen Power Attack maxed like that is in Neverwinter Nights.

There is, I believe an Improved Power Attack feat published somewhere; providing greater damage for a slightly reduced loss of a attack.

I misread the original post. I was thinking it was asking for a way to get better than a 1:5 trading ratio!

Obi-Wan is correct. Also, Improved Power Attack can be found in the Netbook of Feats (http://datadeco.com/nbofeats/).

Prerequisite: Str 15, Power Attack, Base attack bonus +3

Benefit: You can select how much of your base attack bonus to use with Power Attack for each attack separately, instead of using a fixed amount for the whole round.

Heh, the max I am currently aware of is a 1:4 ratio at best. I would sure like to know how to overcome this limit.:)

Ranger with a 2H weapon, Favored Power Attack and Leap Attack also gets 1:6 against favored enemies.

I think Complete Warrior, might be Complete Adventurer.

Complete Warrior: but I think it's only a 1:4 ratio.
x2 for 2H, x3 for feat, x4 for leap attack.

I don't think so. It breaks down like this:

x2 normal, x3 for the feat. Adding in Leap Attack add +100% the bonus damage from Power Attack, raising the x3 to x6.

Usually multipliers add, just to keep things sane. I didn't realise that the wording on Leap Attack worked that way

They aren't multipliers, though. Power Attack provides a set bonus to damage per -1 penalty to attack. The ratio of the penalty to the bonus is normally 1:1 for one-handed weapons, and 1:2 for two-handed weapons. It does not say that if you're using a two-handed weapon, the bonus damage is x2. It just has a different formula for figuring your bonus damage.

Favored Power Attack changes the formula. It does not "modify it", it just changes it to a specific point. The new formula is 1:2 for one-handed weapons, and 1:3 for two-handed weapons. Thus far, we have seen no multiplication. If a character had both Favored Power Attack and the Frenzied Bezerker's Improved Power Attack, they would not stack, since they both do the same thing without any mention of adding or multiplying. You would apply the better of the two for your situation.

Now we throw in Leap Attack. This feat modifies your bonus damage, effectively doubling whatever your bonus damage would otherwise be. This is the only time in the build that your bonus damage from Power Attack is being modified, rather than just changed.

I'll step out on a limb and say that no one is totally sure how leap attack, favored power attack, and improved/supreme power attack are supposed to interact. Right now its something a DM has to adjudicate.

Leap attack specifically triples the bonus damage when using a two-handed weapon. If we don't add multipliers, then we'd turn the 1:3 ratio from FPA to 1:9

I think that both feats are set up in such a way that it looks like you're adding multipliers. Since it's not really clear, then this is (of course) IMHO.

The errata for Leap Attack lists it as "+100%" bonus damage, taking the 1:3 to a 1:6.

For shytes and grins, I allow these two feats in my games...

Improved Power Attack (Ex): Exactly as Power Attack, except for each -2 to attack taken, receive a +3 to damage. If you are using a one handed weapon in two hands or a two handed weapon, instead add twice the number to damage that you subtracted from your attack, i.e. -2 to attack, +6 to damage.

Supreme Power Attack (Ex): Exactly as Power Attack and Improved Power Attack except that for each -1 to attack taken, receive a +2 to damage. If you are using a one handed weapon in two hands or a two handed weapon, instead add twice the number to damage that you subtracted from your attack, i.e. -1 to attack, +4 to damage.

so what books are all these feats in? (shock trooper, improved power attack, supreme power attack, leap attack, etc.)

Complete Warrior for Shock Trooper. Improved and Supreme Power Attack are class abilities of the Frenzied Berserker in the same book.

Just for a clarification on the usage of Power Attack, does the PC need to declare how much they are subtracting from the attack roll before they roll to hit? Or could they do it after, i.e. roll to hit totals 20 vs AC 15, beat by 5 they just subtract the 5 over and translate it to damage.

Per the SRD (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/feats.htm#powerAttack):

On your action, before making attack rolls for a round, you may choose to subtract a number from all melee attack rolls and add the same number to all melee damage rolls. This number may not exceed your base attack bonus. The penalty on attacks and bonus on damage apply until your next turn.
(emphasis mine)

You must decide before making any rolls. Otherwise, you could do boatloads of damage with a good roll, after the fact! ;)
