Move 10' as a 5' Step with Tumble? [Archive] - Wizards Community

I seem to recall somewhere that if you make something like a DC 40 Tumble check you can take a 10' step instead of a 5' step.

Does anybody know if there is some rule like this in the game, and if so, where can I reference it?

Thanks!

Sounds like a House Rule to me.

It is not in the Epic SRD, which is where I would expect to find it if it were WoTC approved.

I believe it's actually covered in the Rokugan rule set.

Correct! It is in Oriental Adventures.

I seem to recall somewhere that if you make something like a DC 40 Tumble check you can take a 10' step instead of a 5' step. This is from the "Extreme Tumbling" table in Oriental Adventures. But please note that it's a 10' tumbling adjustment, not a 10' step. That means it's subject to all the usual armor and encumbrance limitations of tumbling.

Still, all you have to do is wear light armor or no armor, make sure you're not encumbered, then happily deliver skirmish damage while doing a full attack. I'm guessing that's what the OP is looking for? ;)

Some other ways of performing a "10-ft step" are using an item called the Training Dummy of the Master (Arms & Equipment Guide, IIRC) and using the Press the Advantage stance from Tome of Battle.

Even at higher levels, isn't a DC 40 tumble check really high?

not with some OA special abilities where you can get +10/20/30 competence bonus!

this 10 foot step rocks! My "good-ninja-like" PrC uses it all the time.

aren't those +10/+20/+30 classes, v3.0? cuz that would explain the brokenness of them to me.

Although I am not sure of its relevance, but a 7th-level Elocator (from the XPH) also gains the ability to make two 5ft steps per round.
