OK...kinda confused.

I have a rogue with 30 movement....60 when the boots of haste are active.

Now, if I take a feat like "Swift Tumbler" from Cityscape, it states, "when tumbling, you move at a speed equal to half your base speed +10"

What does this mean...let's say I am moving (at 60) up to a certain square, and then decide to tumble to avoid AoO, or move through an enemy space...how does this work? How do you calculate this...doesn't make sense to me.

How do you calculate movement squares remaining etc.

The rule assumes that you must move at half speed for the entire move action. Considering that both Skip and the FAQ have ruled that you only move half speed in the squares in which you are tumbling (effectively double movement cost for leaving those squares), there's a rules consistency problem.

Thanks Nom,

I guess that makes sense. We have never played that tumbling effects speed except in the squares you are tumbling so didn't even think of that.

So....I can't find any, but are there any other feats that improve tumbling - either speed, penalty etc.

There are the obvious feats: Acrobatic, which gives a +2 bonus to each of Jump and Tumble; and Skill Focus: Tumble for a +3 bonus.

To Tumble better you mainly want a higher skill modifier, but the Rogue's Skill Mastery special ability will let you take 10 on mastered skills even in combat, meaning you could guarantee your Tumble "roll" to be a 10 instead of having to prepare for the occasional 1; effectively Skill Mastery "buys" you 9 skill ranks compared to the worst case roll. If you've got Skill Mastery, the Savvy Rogue feat (Complete Scoundrel) lets you take 12 instead of 10 on mastered skills.
