| Dethro03-11-07, 11:46 PM | I'm building up a Rogue/Psion that I want to be the skillmonkey of the party. Understandably he will have a high intelligence, but I want to push it further. Is there any feat floating around that will allow you to have all of your skills from all of your classes, as class skills no matter what you go up in levels with? |

Is there any feat floating around that will allow you to have all of your skills from all of your classes, as class skills no matter what you go up in levels with? Able Learner (RoD) does precisely that. It's a 1st-level feat, and Human-only. EDIT: Dopplegangers can also take it. |
| Dethro03-11-07, 11:54 PM | No way for a Gnome to get it then I'm guessing.... Damn. Our group used to use this variant but recently the DM has been removing all of the house rules and variants and this is just the latest. |

EDIT: Dopplegangers can also take it.Able Learner does not change whether a skill is class or cross-class. All it does is change the cost of buying a rank in a cross-class skill. You still have to abide by the lower maximum ranks in the skill. There's a prestige class in Complete Adventurer that has all skills as class skills. |
| legowarrior03-12-07, 10:08 AM | There is one or two feats that change your Monk Wisdom abilities to Intelligences abilities, plus a cool feat that lets you stack monk and Rogue levesl together for certain things. Those are must haves in my mind. |

That is true, and maybe the way I asked for it was a bit roundabout, but what I am after is a feat that will allow me to only have to spend 1 skill point to go up in a skill that is a skill for any of my classes. Thanks to the fact that the skill is on at least one of my class' skill list, it has maximum ranks of level+3. |

You still have to abide by the lower maximum ranks in the skill. You have to abide by what now? I could have sworn that max ranks = [level+3] if the skill is a class skill for you from any of your classes. And that you could spend cross-class ranks to bring it up to that max rank. For an example, can a Rogue1/Fighter4 have 8 max ranks in Hide, or 4? IIRC it is 8. |

And that you could spend cross-class ranks to bring it up to that max rank. For an example, can a Rogue1/Fighter4 have 8 max ranks in Hide, or 4? IIRC it is 8.For a class skill, max ranks = (level +3). For a cross-class skill, max ranks = ½(level + 3). You determine whether a skill is a class skill for the character by determining whether he has any levels in one or more classes that have that skill as a class skill. So your Rogue 1/Fighter 4 has Hide as a class skill because Hide is a class skill for Rogues. As such, he can have a maximum of 8 ranks in the skill. However, Spellcraft is not a class skill for him, since it is not on the class skill list for either Rogue or Fighter. As such, he can have a maximum of 4 ranks. Able Learner does not affect the determination of whether a skill is a class skill for a character at all. What it does is enable you to pay 1 skill point for a rank in a skill that is cross class to the class that you are currently going up a level in. So buying a rank in Hide as a fighter would normally cost 2 skill points, and now it costs 1. So does buying a rank in Spellcraft, or Knowledge (History), or any of the other skills that are cross-class for the character. However, the max ranks for that character's cross-class skills remain 4. |
| G_Mancer03-15-07, 03:13 AM | you are all very wrong. first page of skills section in players handbook says max ranks in a skill is your CHARACHTER lvl +3. jsut because you multi class doesn't at ALL effect your max rank limits. if anyone doesn't believe me it's pg 61 of 3.5 phb. first column between the middle and the bottom. EDIT: sorry, got jumpy and didn't read the last few or so. it just makes me so made cuz i come to this issue so often..and i really shouldn't.... |
