| Y.A.P.03-26-07, 07:04 PM | After not finding anything for the feat from ToB The Book of Nine Swords in the FAQ in this forum, or any errata for the book, or anything in the downloadable FAQ, I'll ask here (since I don't see a search feature that might show if this has been asked and answered before). In the description for the Martial Study feat it says 'If you have martial adept levels, this manueuver becomes one of your maneuvers known.' Does Martial Study allow you to have a greater number of Manuevers Known than you ordinarily would (for instance, allowing a 9th level Warblade to know 9 manuevers as opposed to 8) or does it just let you pick up a lower-level manuever from a discipline that your class doesn't normally have access to? |

Martial study lets you gain one maneuver, for which you have the prerequisites, and if you are a martial adept you add that maneuver to your list of maneuvers known. You can pick any maneuver, as long as you meet the prerequisites. |

The phrasing of the feat description is just a little on the vague side, which leaves room for opposing interpretations that can be significant. Quoting the feat does nothing to help with that. So yes, you can use it to learn more maneuvers than your class progression would normally allow. Alright, is there something I'm missing in the chart listings, descriptions of how each class handles learning maneuvers, and the feat listing in the book itself that I missed which backs this up (or makes it clear), or has this clarification been made somewhere else? On the assumption that I may be unable to see other board members' reasoning on this, is there an e-mail address to send to in order to get a clarification from someone at Wizards (or a mod that I should PM)? |
| ThePope03-28-07, 01:30 AM | i can't say i've seen a CustServ comment on this... but then its not really needed... if you are an Adept (any of the 3) you gain an extra manuever known (as long as you have the prereqs (ie # of manuevers in that school and a high enough Initiator level) if you aren't an Adept you gain 1 use per encounter of a manuever, with your initiator level equaling half your character level if you are playing a straight class character its very simple, multi-class adepts its a little more involved i suppose. |

Quoting the feat does nothing to help with that. 1st I didn't quote the feat, I am going 100% off of memory, since I am confident I know how it works, and what the wording is, apparenty I know the wording very well since you thought I was quoting it. 2nd how does this not answer your question? You can pick any maneuver, as long as you meet the prerequisites. I am sorry if this is too vague for you, perhaps you should be playing a different game if vagueness like this is beyond your ability to understand. |

| Xaxor03-28-07, 01:31 PM | It does both. You learn a new maneuver from any discipline, get the related skill, and you can ready it whenever you choose. This does allow you to have more maneuvers than normally granted by your martial adept class. It does not increase your number of maneuvers readied though, so it can get trickier to pick the right ones. Of course, you only need five minutes or Adaptive Style to change them. |
