| PerennialRook01-19-08, 07:02 PM | I was trying to make a sorcerer/paladin NPC at 20th level. I was looking into ways to allow the character to cast in armor, and could only find mithril twilight armor for a total reduction of 20% to the ACP of armor. I need my Emporer wearing full plate, so I came up with an idea for a feat: Improved Armored Casting When wearing armor that you are proficient with, reduce the arcane spell failure chance by a percentage equal to your caster level. This would allow a 15th level caster who has spent 4 feats to wear mithril twilight full plate armor and have a 0% chance of spell failure. Comments? |

Armored Casting Prereqs: Still Spell, Proficient in armor (possibly add Combat Casting) Benefit: You may ignore the ASF for casting in armor you are proficient with. Normal: You either suffer ASF or can use Still Spell which "removes ASF" at the cost of requiring spells cast in a +1 slot. The concept is simply that you have simplified you somatic components (learned with Still Spell) enough that armor you are familiar with no longer bothers you. Also note that I don't change proficiency requirements when using special materials. |

With my feat, the changing of somatic components is learned over time while adjusting to armor which the caster is proficient with. Also, with my feat you would have to be 15th level before wearing full plate without spell failure, where with your version a 3rd level fighter/mage could be rid of spell failure all together. I'm not trying to knock your feat, but this does give me encouragement that the feat I have presented is somewhat viable. |

There are already a number of ways to lower the ASF. Spellsword is the most common and with Twilight Mithral armor even full plate doesn't leave much ASF. |
