Benefit: When you take this feat, designate any one feat you already have. once per day, you may change that feat for any other feat that you meet the prerequisites for. Once per day, you may change a switched feat for the original feat that was designated. Special: Any feat you choose with this feat doesn't count as prerequisites for other feats, prestige classes or any such thing. The only exception is that you can use another switchling feat to take a feat which has a switchling feat as prerequisite. A fighter may take this feat as a bonus feat Any comments? I thought this up yesterday :) I believe it's neither unbalanced or particulary powerful. A wizard could switch to "empower spell" and prepare and then lose the feat |

It definitely needs pre-reqs and there is no need to let them switch it back during the day. Using the normal rules, a feat can not be taken twice, so I dropped the stuff about it qualifing for other swtichling feats. Switchling [General] Pre-req: Alighnment must be Chaotic, Wis 13+, Int 13+ Benefit: When you take this feat, designate any one feat you already have. A fighter may take this feat as a bonus feat I can understand the Intelligence, as you actually need to be smart to use this, but wisdom is just overkill IMO. Alignment must be chaotic? Nah, that doesn't really fit what I had in mind with this feat. A disciplined fighter can also gain insight in how to perform smart tricks etc, so I can keep the Int 13 pre-req, but the other two are just overkill |
| Orenmir06-18-07, 06:59 PM | IMO, this feat seems too overpowered unless your PC has the ability to learn and adapt quickly (very high int - at least 15; changeling perhaps). The idea of having a feat, in general, is that your character has spent the time and training to learn it. If any PC has all feats at his disposal (even if just once a day), it could be game-beaking. Or, at least, cause many headaches for a DM. And, unrealistic. Here's a suggestion (that seems more realistic to me): The feats that you can switch to are limited to the feats that your party PCs have. At least these are feats that you are accustom to seeing used and are exposed to. So, seemingly, you can adapt to being able to use them. My $0.02 |
| Nom06-18-07, 08:21 PM | The big balance issue is that there is no time limit. How long does the switched feat last for? I house-ruled a "Heroic Feat" feat which allowed you to expend an action point to convert the "Heroic Feat" into any other feat for which you met the pre-reqs until the start of your next turn. Similarly, I think the 'designate any feat you already have' is pointless. You may as well convert the feat that allows you to switch. It only fires once/day, so once you trigger the ability the feat is useless and may as well be the feat switched out. |

Thus, it takes two feats to actually pull off. The Switchling feat itself and another feat you designate. To solve some balance issues, perhaps it would be better to just allow fighters to use it? that would boost them a bit. |
| Koretsu06-19-07, 06:47 AM | Actually, this feat is very similar to a bonus feat that Chameleon's get (Races of Destiny PRC). I wouldn't imagine it's overpowered. But I would make a special requirement that you can not use this feat to augment prepared spells with metamagic, lest you loose the relevant prepared metamagic spells when you swap this feat out (If I wizard takes this feat, and designates his Maximize Spell feat, then preped a boatload of maximized spells, then swaps out the feat to Combat Casting or some such, there's no reason the Wizard should still have the ability to cast the spells maximized, IMO.) On the other hand, I could definately see a Sorcerer taking this feat with the Bonus Spell feat to give him a small level of versatility each day. :D |
