I haven't seen anything like this for D&D (although the SW RPG has a similar feat).

Wield Anything
In your hands, even the most mundane object becomes a deadly weapon.
Prerequisite: Dex 15, Improved Unarmed Strike
Benefit: You do not suffer the usual -4 penalty on attack rolls for wielding an improvised weapon. The range increment for a thrown improvised weapon is still 10 feet.
Normal: When wielding an improvised weapon, you take a -4 penalty on attack rolls. Thrown improvised weapons have a range increment of 10 feet.

Maybe not the most useful of feats, but it would work very well with the Drunken Master PrC, or for those characters who just love to start barfights in major cities. It can also turn basic adventuring tools, like a mallet or an empty potion bottle into a somewhat effective last-ditch weapon.

Any thoughts?

How about a strength requirement instead of dex?

"I wield the desk!"

"I wield the house!"

"I wield the Dwarf!"

they've got that in one of the books, I thought...

Seriously... I saw it!

I own it, even... unless it's scoundrel.

Yeah, it is called "Improvised Weapon," from Sword and Fist (I think) and is basically copied verbatium.

I suppose a Dex requirement may not be ideal. Perhaps a BAB requirement, say +3 or +4 maybe? But since most improvised weapons are usually not that heavy (chairs, bottles, table legs), I don't know if Str would be fitting.

Pretty sure it's already a feat.

There's a whole class build around this in "Complete Warrior" called Drunken Master.

I'm aware of this. My original post mentions it. However, the Drunken Master still takes a -4 penalty when attacking with an improvised weapon. This feat gets rid of that.

As for Sword and Fist, I've never seen the book myself.

Really? I'd swear that DM grants proficiency with improvised weapons. But I don't have my book here to check.

No, he just does more damage with them (which doesn't help if his attacks miss).

I don't know, I just like the image of a guy snatching a wizard's spellbook...then beating him with it.

It doesn't actually say. I think it's implied, but not actually RAW, so far as I can tell. The 3.0 SaF version (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/ex/20010105)of DM seems like it wasn't supposed to give proficiency for improvised weapons, since it explicitly gives proficiency for bottles and tankards. That part was left out of the CW version, so maybe the intention was to give proficiency with all Improvised Weapons? CW has been through several version of errata, so I'd guess not..

SaF has Throw Anything, (Dex based) but that requires proficiency to work.

SS has Area Attack (based on Str, Power Attack, and Huge Size) which uses improvised weapons. But like DM, it doesn't explicitly say it grants proficiency.

I think you could make a new feat that covers this... it seems like it could work either way as Dex or Str. It probably doesn't need IUS as a prereq, though. (I see a feat like this being used as much by secret agent (rogue/assassin) and special forces (fighter/ranger) archetypes.. which may or may not have IUS.) I think a BAB requirement would be appropriate.

I would've thought that eliminating the penalty for improvised weapons would be included in the Drunken Master's write-up as well, but it doesn't look like it. Seems kind of silly to me.

I think a BAB requirement would best. Nothing too high though, probably +4, making it a decent 6th level monk feat.

I used IUS as a prereq so you could be considered 'armed' at all times. I didn't think using an improvised weapon, like an empty oil flask or a chair would allow you to be considered armed.
