| Jaime_Wolf04-02-07, 05:25 PM | Withering Fist You can, with a staccato series of quick jabs, obstruct the flow of ki in an opponents limb, rendering it useless. Requires: Stunning Fist, BAB +5, Wisdom 15 Benefit: You must declare that you are using this feat before making an attack roll (thus, a missed attack ruins the effect). Against a humanoid target, you may choose a limb (the head does not count as a limb) and make an unarmed strike using this feat that does no damage but forces the target, if struck, to make a Fortitude save (DC 10 + 1/2 your character level + your Wisdom modifier) or lose the use of one limb, dropping anything held in it, until they heal damage in some manner (or until they would have healed damage, if they are fully healed). A monk's Wholeness of Body ability does not allow him to recover from a withering fist attack as the ability relies on ki (however, the ability still may heal the monk normally). Each use of this feat counts against your daily uses of the Stunning Fist feat. Creatures immune to stunning are also immune to this feat. |
| tetebetson04-02-07, 06:53 PM | did u make that feat up if so its prety good feat but i would put a pre requisite ,Pain touch [complete worriar] and on sucsesfull hit instead of droping wepon until they heal. I would say for amount of rounds equal to you HD+wisdom mod and expend stunning fist use to double amont of round affected for :P |
| Tim448804-02-07, 07:07 PM | Seems legit. The BAB requirement limits it to at least 8th level PCs (no non-monk can get Stunning Fist until level 8 anyway). "using this feat" in the third line is redundant, but that's just a nitpick. "A monk's Wholeness of Body ability..." should probably go on its own line as a Special: at the bottom of the feat, too. Again, a nitpick. The saving throw doesn't seem ridiculous, though I may be wrong. You should probably note what a Withering Strike against a leg does (reduces speed, penalty on some skill checks), or can this only be used against arms? If the latter, I suggest a Hamstringing Strike partner to this feat, just because thematically it works. Pain Touch doesn't hurt as a prereq, thematically it works but balance-wise it may make the feat more unattractive (then again, an ability this potent, it may work anyway). I would note that this feat has issues in any game that allows a full BAB monk variant, since a 5th level character with this would be nasty. I like it. |

Just a nit-pick though... :P A lot of people will dip into monk if necessary to get a few things earlier... this makes unarmed fighter concepts and some grappling concepts easier... without really having to have all the baggage of a monk. Against a humanoid target, you may choose a limb (the head does not count as a limb) and make an unarmed strike using this feat that does no damage but forces the target, if struck, to make a Fortitude save (DC 10 + 1/2 your character level + your Wisdom modifier) or lose the use of one limb, dropping anything held in it, until they heal damage in some manner (or until they would have healed damage, if they are fully healed). emphasis mine So it either does no damage and the target of the feat doesn't actually drop anything... or the feat works in some strange way and they either cannot hold anything until a cleric cast a cure cantrip or the character sleeps long enough to regain some hit points? I thought stunned characters already dropped anything they were holding... am I wrong? |
| tetebetson04-02-07, 07:22 PM | if u r into that sort of stuff look up 'pressur ponit strike' in dragon magizine cant rmember which one :P |
| Tim448804-02-07, 08:31 PM | I believe he means that a cleric casting a cure cantrip or natural rest are the idea, yes. After all, it does say that "or until they would have healed damage," implying that this can be used on a character at full health, keeping him down until he sleeps or gets a Cure Minor Wounds thrown his way. At the same time, the advantage is that stunning IS a set number of rounds, whereas this is not. If your opponent doesn't have a cleric, druid, or paladin buddy handy, his life just got a lot more difficult... Good point about the multiclassing though, Teshen. Still, that character would probably want armor, so the Wis 15 wouldn't help him as much as it would help a straight monk... and 6th level is better than 5th. And it is a nitpick indeed. *shrug* |
| Marcotic04-03-07, 02:54 AM | good feat, I only suggest making it unworkable only to things that can't be crited as opposed to only humanoids this makes it a more usefull feat without over powering it too much. |

I have to second Tim4488's question about what happens when someone with this feat targets a leg? Halve movement? Still, that character would probably want armor, so the Wis 15 wouldn't help him as much as it would help a straight monk... and 6th level is better than 5th.True enough... but there are a lot of ways to make wisdom work for a character... especially since it ties in to a lot of fairly useful untrained skills and will saves. Then there's other kinds of options for wisdom... Paladin (+ Serenity feat)( + Monk's belt). (CAv) Ninja. Swordsage. Zen archery. Most stunning fist feats/abilities. There are others, but I'm not too big on wisdom based characters... I guess I like characters a little less wise and a little more impetuous... But stunning fist feats are a hard sell for non-monks since they get an additional useage of stunning fist every four levels, I think, verses the monks additional useage every level. The increased base attack for other fighting classes makes it easier to land the hit, though, which is the trade off... Of course, monks get so few free feats... And it is a nitpick indeed. *shrug* Yeah, I guess it's just a bit of contrary that I come by naturally. :D |
