Member of the Alchemist and Potion Brewer Guild
Pre Req: 1 gp/month fee, and EITHER a. the feat Brew Potion, or b. at least 4 ranks in Craft (Alchemy)

You are a member of a major guild of Alchemists and Potion creators, and are entilted to a Guild Discount. The guild has shops throught the world, at all the major cities.

At any of these shops, you may present yourself. The owner has a communication spell to check your creditials (turn around time = 1 day to verify) Once you have been verified, the shop owner will give you a 25% discout on the first potion or alchemical item you buy every month. The shop will insist on verification 1/month to make sure that you have paid your dues. If you have not, you may pay it then and there.

Member of the Wonderous Guild

Pre req: At least 3 HD, Charisma of 13+, Gather Information 4 ranks, Initiation fee of 1,000 gp.

You are a member of the Wonderous Guild, a loose association of adventurerors that trade magic items. When you want to sell, or desire to buy a magic, you may take some extra time, but get a better price.

Benefit: When in a major city, you may contact your guild master to sell/buy any Wonderous Item. They will get you a discount of 20% when buying, or a premium of 20% above the base price when selling (Note, the guild supports itself via the remaining 10%).

Doing so however takes time. Specifically, 1d10 days for every 5,000 gp base value of the item (minimum 1d10 days).

Note, if you repeatedly buy/sell wonderous magic items outside the guild, you may be kicked out of the guild, losing this feat.

I like the idea but it just doesn't seem right makin em feats...if they were to be done this way I'd think they should require association with said Guild.

Do you mean for the Potion thing? The problem with that is pre-reqs. I wanted this to be for non-casters, as sort of an equivlenet of taking the brew-potion/craft wonderous item feats.

As such, I could not see a guild accepting someone that could not actually make a potion.

Hm. Wait a second, I will make it an Alchemy thing. Will re-write it. While you officially need to be a spellcaster to make them, you don't need to be one to take the ranks.

i like but not feats more like charachter backgrounds
in this way you dm can incorportate the background into the game and use the people you get the discounts as a way to get you tio do stuff you may not want to

and yes doing the right thing means in a majority of the time doing what you do not want to

staying home and raising your family living to a ripe old age or leaving them with a chance of them getting killed to save the world
most peopel would choose to stay at home

Membership in an alchemists guild or a brewers guild should have a secret handshake or a coded greeting. These used to be real things in secret societies.

A background check sounds like your wizard stopped off at the department of motor vehicles and wants to get a comcercial drivers liscence.

If the campaign world is very bureaucratic, a background check might make sense, but for most fantasy or medieval type settings, I'd go with a secret handshake or greeting to communicate you were eligable for the guild rate.
