I know this is the dnd forum board, but I heard that 'etherscope' had a system of diffrent fighting styles using skill checks. Have any of you ever played or looked at that setting? any suggestions for other books/ d20 systems that use skill checks for fighting moves and or magic?

What do you want exactly?

You can use several skills in combat as it is, Tumble, Jump, maybe Balance. Bluff, Intimidate, Concentration, Escape Artist, Knowledge, Handle Animal, and Sense Motive (if you use the expanded ability from Complete Adventurer).

Some feats require you to make skill checks like Sleight of Hand, and some maneuvers in Tome of Battle also require you to make skill checks to execute them properly.

Skill Tricks from Complete Scoundrel let you do some neat things for having skills, but it isn't quite making checks to do things.

If you want something like "I make a Jump check to flip over his head and hit him for a bonus on damage" you might look into Iron Heroes. I think they call them "Skill Stunts" which gives you some bonuses for doing things with your skills. I'm pretty sure 4th edition is going to have some of that stuff as well, but that's still a way off.

Something like skill stunts is exactly what i am looking for. Tome of battle has some manuevers that are based on skills, but the majority aren't. I am kinda thinking of something like the force powers from sage edition, but iron heros is a good enough of a suggestion for me. thanks for the help.
