Okay people,

I only know of 1 feat that protects you from that nasty natural 1 on a saving throw, Steadfast Determination. I think it requires Endurance and along allowing you to never autofail on Fortitude Saves it allows you to apply Constitution instead of Wisdom to Will saves...which makes it a most excellent feat for dumb fighters (or any warriors with lousy wisdom).

Any other feats that prevent autofailure on saving throws?

It actually negates the rule that a natural 1 on a save is not an automatic failure?:mymy:? The benefit explicitly states this? Day-uuuum!

Okay, where's my feat that negates the natural 1 is a failure on melee attacks? I'll take the one for ranged attacks, too. While I'm at it, I guess I'll take the three for the different saves, too! I am invincible!!!!!!! (cue shattering of 5,000 gallon liquid nitrogen tank directly behind me :D)

yep its crazy...and it applies constitution instead of wisdom to will saves to boot...i figure it is a mistake in someone's judgment to build it as a feat but it does require endurance...and who gets endurance, really?

The answer is rangers, who typically have descent wisdoms so that part is a little useless...but if you ever build a dumb fighter that has some use for endurance (say as a prereq for a prestige class), steadfast determination is a must.

A character with a low Wisdom score is not dumb, but foolish.

It is the character with a low Intelligence score that is dumb.

Thanks for the correction...agreed.

Steadfast Determination only makes a 1 on a Fortitude save not an automatic failure. SD also lets you use your CON modifier for Will saves, but without the 1-is-not-an-automatic-failure benefit. There's no effect at all for Reflex saves. And SD requires Endurance as a prereequisite, so it's better suited to Fighters (who get lots of feats) or Barbarians (who can make good use of Diehard, which also requires Endurance as a prerequisite).

Clerics have a solution that I think is superior: the Pride domain (see the appendix in Spell Compendium). Its granted power is to let you re-roll any 1 on a saving throw (but only once each save).

I'll take a look at that domain ability...maybe worth sacking a level of cleric, but I've got a question about your first paragraph. Were you adding or correcting something or just making everything explicit? Except for indicating that fighters and barbarians would be best suited (which does make sense) it seemed the rest was already covered.

Were you adding or correcting something or just making everything explicit? I was mostly emphasizing the limitations of SD in contrast with the Pride domain's granted power. Lots of people just start reading the most recent post in a thread, so a quick summary never hurts.

Luck domain lets you reroll any one roll 1/day, which could be a natural 1 on a save.

Three of the Diamond Mind maneuvers allow you to swap a concentration roll for a save.

Since it becomes a skill check, a 1 isn't an auto failure.

It's also suited for rangers, because they get Endurance as a bonus feat.

Better lucky than dead, from complete scoundral allows you to turn 1 natural 1 into a 20 once/day. That saves you.:D
