Hello fellow boarders.

Would you say it is fair to let players trade skills per level for a change in hd and vice versa? Let say 2 skills per level for a one step increase in hp.

This means you could have a rogue with 4 skills per level a d10 hp, or a ranger with 2 skills per level and d12 hp.

I have always found this to work very well, I just wnated some input and thoughts :)

I see a major problem:

PC's who dumped their int.

Say you are a ranger who just dumped his int. His int is 3. oh, -4 to number of skill points

So he gets 4-4, minimum of 1 = 1 skill point per level

And you are letting him pump up his hitpoints in exchange for dropping the number of skills he gets, when it will not affect it at all.

-------

Here is what I would allow:

Fitness fanataic

Pre req: Improved Toughenss, Int of 11, Con of 11+

Benefit: You study your own health instead of other skills.

Forever more, when you gain a level, you receive one fewer skill points, but gain one extra hitpoint.

This feat can only be taken once, but it does stack with Improved Toughness.

========
Studious
Pre req: Int 13+, Con 13+
Benefit: You gain an addtional two skill points per level, but your Con is treated as two points lower than normal for purposes of calculating the number of hitpoints you get.

Maybe If you put a cap on it for 1 die level, otherwise 3 or 4 skill points per die level could be more balanced. I like that feat idea too though.

Let say 2 skills per level for a one step increase in hp.

I don't think there is anything that can be done to make it balanced using skill points alone.

I believe tarkin's feats appear balanced and I believe a feat is the low water mark for balance on this question (meaning I don't think there is a balanced solution that isn't at minimum a feat.)
