This is like 18 days too late for April Fools Day.

I hope this is a joke...

I was kind of surprised to find it under Skills & Feats.

I think I'm taking this better than everyone else because I never subscribed to them. Still, ever since I've been gaming, these magazines have been around. It won't seem the same without them...

Who're you? The hall monitor?

He has the right to be; he's a well-respected senior board member. Until you have the experience and reputation to back yourself up, whenever somebody like Tempest speaks, you should assume his opinion is more informed (and matters more) than your own.

And who're you again? The hall monitor's girlfriend?

I hope you're joking. That kind of elitism is the last thing these boards need.

Well this thread does belong in the General forum, not here.

Well, Dragon magazine is the source of the worse feats ever.

Im not sad with the end of the dragon magazine at all, they deserved it a little.

Ah, I'm not the only one who popped in here just to say "this was crossposted to every freggin forum on the board."

I'm the Assistant Hall Monitor.

And who are you, Olskool, to be insulting and provoking other board members?

Frankly, I could care less if I had a reputation or experience or whatever. I would have posted that if I had just started on this board. This is in the wrong forum -- that's undeniable. When I bring this up, you start insulting me and anyone who appears to agree with me?

If you have an issue with one of my posts, avoid the ad-hominem attacks and deal with the post on its own terms.

For the record, Lotus Crane, a statement like that would be correct if and only if I were a recognized expert on the subject matter at hand. In the case of thread locations, that would mean a moderator. Since I'm not a moderator, I have no more and no less voice than anyone else who has posted on this thread. To assume otherwise would be busting out elitist remarks. You are still correct in saying this thread doesn't belong here, though.

(I'm not offended or anything, don't get me wrong. I'm just pointing out a common mistake -- confusing activity and prominence with authority. Well, that and the fact that I'm already very arrogant and I don't need people feeding my already-bloated ego, but that's beside the point. :) )

How dare he speak to Tempest in that challenging tone?

I'm greatly annoyed whenever some random high school kid with a brand new account and no grasp of the English language (let alone the intricacies of D&D) shows up here, and in the corrupt spirit of new-age demo-anarchy, thinks he has the right to butt heads with somebody like Tempest Stormwind.

So you do have a crush on the hall monitor. That's cool. There's nothing wrong with that.

Kids need to listen to their elders with respect. Then maybe they'd actually learn something and stop being kids.Again, while I appreciate the respect, I think it's misguided, especially when phrased this way. Olskool has been playing D&D longer than I've been alive. (The current edition, though? That's another story...) If age or experience were to equal respect, then he would be deserving of respect in spite of such juvenile actions as his posts on this thread.

Again, age does not automatically equal respect. Respect should never be given freely based on some arbitrary virtue such as age; it should be earned. If what I've done has earned your respect, then I am deserving of it -- but similarly, if what I've done has NOT earned someone else's respect, then the fact that you respect me means nothing to that other person.Well, you're actually published, aren't you? I think that's plenty of basis for considering you an authority. Yes, but so are a lot of people. It doesn't mean as much as you think, since pretty much anyone can do it. If my published material is worthy of respect, then it's the quality of my work that matters, not the fact that I was able to convince a publisher to publish it. (Or, more accurately in my case, co-founded a publisher to publish it...)Still, if I've offended you, I'll try to keep my feelings more to myself in the future. I consider you more experienced than myself, so I'm inclined to treat your opinions as more important than my own.And you shouldn't. My opinions are no more and no less important than yours. Believing otherwise leads to democratic deficit in one way or another -- and the internet is practically the ultimate democracy. If you feel the need to laud others, then by all means do so. Similarly, if you don't care what other people think, don't post things based on wondering what others will think. Post YOUR opinions, what YOU think, and you'll be amazed at the results. Provided everyone stays calm and controlled, the discussions are far richer for it.

This is not so much an opinion as an observation, though. Before I was a very active member here, I was an administrator at another forum, which grew from a few hundred members to 63,260 (as of today). I noticed *exactly* the same effect there before I "retired". In this situation, my experience probably should carry some weight, but it should also be taken with a grain of salt (as my observations are, at best, anectodal evidence).

Olskool supposedly has that much experience, and yet he's immature enough to be making such derisive remarks towards you and myself? Curious.

Still Tempest, I suppose I did go overboard here today. I personally think too much democracy and equality can be (and often is) a bad thing, and that merit-based heirarchies are both necessary and good (one must wonder then, what exactly I'm doing on the internet). However, I also value social harmony over individual freedom, and in this case I think I may have misused my freedoms to make a statement which hurt more than help the harmony of these boards.

So for the sake of social harmony, I apologize for trying to force Olskool into a heirarchy that placed him below Tempest, and will go and delete my previous posts.

But no Olskool, I am not Tempest's girlfriend or have a crush on him (her?) in any way, having never actually met him (her?).

For the record, Paizo did NOT kill those magazines.

WotC did, in favor of moving into an online subscription model. I guess they want to follow Steve Jackson Games Pyramid online magazine.

Heh.

You've got Groupies Tempest, how do you manage that? :)

Slightly off topic but the threat made me currious... what did you have published, and where? I'm currious to see what it is. Having writen many game system alterations/additions but never having been published (at least, not in my own name, but thats another story) I'd love to see your stuff. ;)
