Hello. My question is about a Paladin's mount and how to use it. I just reached level 5 and this is pretty much the first time I've had a mount.

I don't have any feats related to riding a mount and (at the moment) I have no ranks in Ride or Handle Animal. I could put a single point into HA for this level up, just so that I could make the checks at +4 (due to CHA). I don't have many skill points :(

Basically, I'm just wondering how people usually use their special mount. Without feats or many skill ranks, what should I do in a fight?

Have it flank your enemies. Treat it as an intelligent Animal Companion (fights beside you, defends you, etc). You don't need HA I think. It is intelligent.

Unlike like Animal companions it is intelligent (Int 6 at level 5) so understands common. No HA check needed.

Personally, I'd ask for a Riding dog over a horse if you are not riding it (fits in areas better for combat).

How exactly are you playing a Paladin and not taken these questions into account for your characters feats and or skills? I realize that the Paladin has few of either but this is one of the class features that you forgot to take into account. Sounds like poor planning to me.

Poor planning? Maybe. I've never played a Paladin before and, in this campaign, I felt like playing something different. I could have chosen a class/race combination that I'm used and that I've previously "solved" but I decided to do something different.

I'm just hoping that some people can give me some ideas. Maybe I only have limited options... I don't even know what they are.
