MNEMONIC RETENTION
Your privileged intellect allows you to cast some spells without the need to prepare them.

Prerequisite: Access to a spellcasting class that needs to prepare spells in advance.

Benefit: Choose one spellcasting class for which you need to prepare spells. Each day, choose a number of spells equal to your Int bonus. As a full-round action, you may spontaneously convert any prepared spell of equal or higher level into one of your chosen spells.

The spell slot is used for the day, as normal, but you may spontaneously cast the chosen spell again by spending another spell slot.

Special: You can choose this feat more than once, but its effects don't stack. Instead, apply its benefits to a new spellcasting class that needs to prepare spells in advance.

It seems too much to me. How about we make Spell Mastery a prerequisite, and allow spontaneous casting of mastered spells only?

Indeed, I would make spell mastery a prereq. Furthermore, I would not allow the choice of spell on a day by day basis, but rather chose the spells when you take the feat. Finally, I would, limit it to one or two spells (which have to be mastered first).

Thanks for your opinions. What about these new versions?

You can use this feat a number of times per day equal to your Intelligence modifier.

Too strong. The signature spell feat lets you cast only 1 spell spontaneously, and that spell has to be one "mastered" via the spell mastery feat.

At higher lvs, your wizard is looking at 10+ spontaneous spells.

Even the spontaneous spell feat is an epic feat.

I suggest the following change:

Benefit: Choose one spell of each level you may cast that you can prepare without referring to a spellbook. As a full-round action, you may spontaneously convert any prepared spell of equal or higher level into one of your chosen spells.

There is already a feat that does this. Your feat is substantially better.

While it isn't a terribly productive response, I feel it is the only reasonable response: use Signature Spell or play a Sorcerer.

Where can I find the feat signature spell?

Anyways, here I go again ;):

MNEMONIC RETENTION [GENERAL]
Your privileged intellect allows you to cast some spells without the need to prepare them.

Prerequisite: Wizard level 1st, Spell Mastery.

Benefit: When preparing your spells, choose one spell you can cast. Until the next time you prepare your spells, you can spontaneously convert any spell of equal or higher level to the chosen spell. Casting the spell in this manner takes a full-round action instead of a standard action.

In order to benefit from this feat, you must leave unprepared a spell slot of equal or higher level than the spell you want to spontaneously cast. This slot can't be used in any other feat or ability.

Or you could use Alacritous Cogitation (Complete Mage) to increase your versatility as opposed to cut it down....

Where can I find the feat signature spell?
Player's Guide to Faerun, page 37.

For future reference, a Feat Index (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/lists/feats) has been written to answer this exact questions.
