| Daebereth03-25-07, 10:37 AM | I know this has probably been asked many a time before, and therefore I apologise. It wasn't in the faq.... One of the pre-reqs for the Nightcloak PrC is perform. I have a rogue/favoured soul going on Nightcloak, and I don't know what sort of perform skills are available. I cited sacrifice, but my party thought no. She's not really the break out into song, start dancing around the room kind of person. So, what else could I put into perform, apart from what's in the PHB? |
| CaoSlayer03-25-07, 11:08 AM | umm, dance fits more the role... also there is perform(weapon drill) in complete warrior. |
| Lindwyrm03-25-07, 11:12 AM | Perform (dirge) Perform (poetry) Perform (black comedy) |
| FearlessLeader03-25-07, 12:44 PM | You could always take Perform (Harmonica) in case you get thrown in Jail. Or Perform (Blues Guitar) to be properly depressing. Or you could alway RP a secret desire to be a singer/dancer, but your evil father forced you to go into the family thievery business instead. Your broken dreams are what have caused the darkness of your personality up to this point. Now, though, you are finally living your childhood dream, and you become sunshine and rose petals. Which is slightly incongruous (sp?) for the Nightcloak, but that's great Role-playing. |
| Garonak03-25-07, 02:14 PM | Perform (Act) Perform (Comedy) Dance Keyboard Oratory Percussion instruments String inst. Wind inst. Sing Here's a tip: when in doubt about a skill, look it up, ain't that hard. |
| Weab03-25-07, 04:44 PM | You could always try Perform (Stand up Comedy) how do you get 3 orcish bards to play a chord? Ask them to play the same note, yuk yuk yuk! |
| CaoSlayer03-25-07, 05:49 PM | By the name nightcloak I only can imagine a guy fighting with acrobatics, dancing and swinging the cloack to confuse the enemy. |
| docballen03-25-07, 09:56 PM | She's not really the break out into song, start dancing around the room kind of person. So, what else could I put into perform, apart from what's in the PHB? Perform (oratory)-- for telling tales around the campfire OR for making speeches perform (mime)-- for telling stories without words (using gestures, etc.) Perform (poetry)-- tell tales like Edgar Allan Poe "quoth the Raven, nevermore". Perform (weapon drill)-- you have learned to spin and juggle your main weapon in an "entertaining" way. I think it would also help an intimidate check (but that's just me...) |
| tarkin03-26-07, 01:33 PM | In addition to the standards, mentioned above, I find the following worthwhile. Perform (Improv): Improve does not have to be funny - it can be any kind of acting, as long as you have no script when you get up there. Perform (Stage Magic): You do stage tricks. Good examples could be the kind of black comedy Penn and Teller sometimes do. Perform (Fake Death): You pretend to die really really well. Perform (Juggling): Could include juggling daggers. |
| Critalondel03-26-07, 01:41 PM | Singing can also be used for religious/gospel type songs, arcane chants, and whatnot, I'd imagine. It's not like it has to be an upbeat pop song or love ballad or something. |
| WilwarinAndamar03-26-07, 02:48 PM | Perform (Kazoo) would be funny to try. |
| Bedevere03-26-07, 03:54 PM | Perform (Kazoo) would be funny to try. Great. Now I have to make a knowledge: Limits of my own sanity check. Perform: Oratory, and Perform: Acting are both suitable to almost any character who wishes to remain 'serious' and not an entertainer. You are simply familiar with the greatest works, and have seen enough tellings of them, that you know how they are best told. You might have little natural talent yourself, but you simply emulate the greats that you have seen so well, that you pass for a great actor. |
| Daebereth03-27-07, 10:37 AM | Perform (Fake Death): You pretend to die really really well. :D i like.... very handy |
| DreadArchon03-27-07, 11:50 AM | Perform: Villainous Monologuing |
| jaelis03-27-07, 12:20 PM | Edit, nevermind, should have checked first. |
| Rhuxley03-27-07, 01:47 PM | Note that Profession: Oratory, is usefull for bragging & if your using the reputation variant, this might help to get your name out there, and turn those 0 point rewards into 1/2 point rewards. |
| wizarddog03-28-07, 04:58 AM | Impersonator-- In order for you pull off a disguise as someone else you have to assume their personality. Ventriloquist-- Throw your voice-make it seem someone else close by said something. Make objects speak. Storytelling- Always have a intresting story to tell-even if it's kind of dark and scary. Gossip- those skilled at gossip make rumors about something or someone to spread quickly through the correct channels. Puppetry- Manipulate objects so they seem alive. |
| EiketheRogue03-28-07, 10:33 AM | Ventriloquism would be neat for a rogue. I would use it to get a guard's attention to go and investigate something while my rogue sneaks by and steals something. |
