Do you consider being immune to a substance the same as automatically making your save against said substance? For example, lets say you have a character that is racially immune to fire. Would you say that the character being immune to fire is the same as saying he always makes his save against fire? The reason I ask is because I came across the feat Poison Healer in the Fiendish Codex I which allows you to heal a number of hit points of damage equal to your Con bonus when you successfully make a fort save against a poison. Then I thought, well what if I took the feat Poison Immunity from the BoVD, giving me immunity to a certain poison, and then pumped myself full of that poison whenever I was damaged...would it heal me as per the Poison Healer feat? It all depends on whether or not you associate "making your save" and "being immune" as the same thing. I can see it both ways. What do you think? |

So with poison immunity and poison healer, you would still roll your fort save against the poison, if you make the save you heal with Poison Healer, if you fail the save then nothing happens... | Fayle04-21-08, 10:33 PM | Thanks for your input. That's pretty much what I was thinking. |
| Captain_Kobold04-23-08, 04:59 AM | I must admit, I'd think of it the other way: You're immune to poison: it has no capability to affect your metabolism, good or bad. If you're immune to fire, you don't automatically save for half against a Fireball. You just ignore it. I can see the logiv of Jay's arguement as well though. Ultimately, its one of those "Ask your DM" questions. Their ruling will probably be based on the potential for abuse of the combination. |
| ciaran04-23-08, 11:07 PM | There's two ways I could look at it. 1) You're a munchkin using too many feats to get free healing. Maybe you keep vials of poison around. 2) You're some kind of sicko whose metabolism thrives on toxic substances. Its a matter of roleplaying it out. Choice two sounds pretty fun. |

Choice two does sound like a fun character to RP. |
| Auspex704-24-08, 02:53 AM | i would punch a PC in the face for making a suggestion like this. i think i would even wear a spiked gauntlet when i did it. then, i'd put a video of it up on Youtube, and label it as "paris hilton sextape" so everyone would see it. |
| zeratulcraft04-24-08, 03:36 AM | Ew paris hilton, she's ugly, why would I want to watch anything with her in it? |
| Jay_Ibero_91104-24-08, 09:15 AM | Well in the given that almost every poison costs more than a potion of cure light wounds, unless you have a rediculously high con bonus then you are paying more for less healing. The only workaround is if you have a tiny viper as a pet or something and let it keep biting you, and even then because of the damage you are getting (con modifier-1) healing each time the snake bites you. Not enough to matter in combat, and out of combat there are plenty of other ways to get loads of healing inexpensively without spending 2 feats to do so. |

I wasn't trying to create some super character that uses poison as a heal potion, I just thought of the concept and wondered if it'd work. I doubt I would ever play this character. Just curious. :P |
| ciaran04-24-08, 09:48 AM | I kind of like the idea of keeping pet snakes and spiders around. Thats pretty twisted. :D |
