I remember a feat from a dragon magazine a bit back called Pouncing Charge or Charging Pounce or something, was wondering if anyone can point me in the direction of the prerec's or whatnot?

I don't know if it's related to the pounce ability that monsters have or not...

Per the SRD (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/specialAbilities.htm#pounce):
Pounce

When a creature with this special attack makes a charge, it can follow with a full attack—including rake attacks if the creature also has the rake ability.
Does that seem close at all?

It's a feat that lets you do the same thing as pounce. I can't remember what exactally the prerec's are, run and powerful charge are two, but I keep thinking there are more.

Same as Pounce, but it is an Epic Feat:

DIRE CHARGE

PH2 did add a feat 2 wpn pounce that lets you charge, take the penalty (-2 AC) & not get the the +2 & attack with 2 weapons but you don't get your full attack. It's got a +6 BA req so you can take it at lower then epic levels though.

But can only be used in the first round of combat. Not quite the same.

I recommend the first level Lion totem barbarian variant in Complete Champion. You give up something small and gain Pounce at first level. Excellent dip.

Pouncing Charge is the name of a manuever from the Tiger Claw school from Tome of Battle. It lets you do a full attack when charging.

It's kinda interesting how if you have Complete Champion, a one-level dip in Barbarian grants a better-than-epic feat... o.o

Edit: DMD beat me to it.

It's a feat from a Dragon Magazine called Pouncing Charge or Charging Pounce, something like that, I'm fairly sure I remember the prerec's, just wanna make sure.

There's also 'Lion's Pounce', which is a Wild Feat from Complete Divine, it lets you spend a Wild Shape use to full attack after a charge.

You are better of getting the barbarian substitution lvl from complete champion.

Snow Tiger Berserker from the FR Unapprochable East book gives you a Pounce style attack.

Its a "Regional" Feat and has some flavor requirements that may need campaign adaptation.

However, it gives you a full attack after a charge when armed with a light weapon or weapons.

Also, this thread has some great info on Charge/Lancer typoe builds:

Actually, it is the same. It simply hasn't been updated decently from 3.0, where Pounce worked like that. It should be updated to reflect 3.5 pounce.

It's called "Power Creep".

It's called "Power Creep".

You call it that, I call it "WotC waking up and realizing that there's no good reason for a lot of things to actually be epic" (dire charge, two-weapon rend...).

That's your opinion. I find that "awesome power" should remain where it belongs: at epic levels.

Compared to what spellcasters do pretty much all game long, pouncing isn't really that out of control. Warriors can have nice things too.
Witch

Yes. At Epic, spellcasters and warriors both get new nice things. Don't commit the fallacy of "everything's fine for warriors because they're not spellcasters!".

If pounce is fine for druids from level 5 on (between wildshapes, the lion's pounce spell, and the lion pounce feat) then its probably fine for everyone else pre-epic then too.

If you think two weapon rend, armor skin, and epic endurance are "awesome," I think you need to click on this link http://mw1.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/awesome

I have a feeling that more games end around Mid level. Many do not ever see Epic levels. I think there will be a trend to grant cooler abilites sooner than later. Especially in the newer editions. I am 32 and have been gaming for about 10 years and have never been in a game that has gotten over 10th lvl. Plus many of the gamers I know with the same track record as me have encountered the same problem.

You can easily start at a higher level.

Character level and cool abilities should grow at the same rate. It only makes sense. Weaklings just aren't as impressive in combat, for example, as people who tackle demigods.

You forgot the new Bestial Charge from Complete Champion.

The round after you wildshape (or the same round if you swift wildshape), you can charge and get the pounce ability for free during that round. If your animal form already has pounce, you get a +3 bonus on your attacks. In addition the same feat grants twisting charge, which allows you to change direction *as many times as you want/can* during the charge, with the only requirements that you move 10 feet before changing direction and that you use an animal form with four or more legs.

Yeah, this is power creep. Power creep sells better. Something WotC has employed effectively for a long time and one of the reasons I no longer play Magic: the Gathering.

Nah not fogotten, I just didn't want to use something from the book he'd already accused of power creep as part of my arguement :)

Yeah, the pounce ability from Complete Champion is too good. In my opinion, no class/character should have access to pounce before 6th level.

Well it is mildly mitigated by the fact that you can only use the feat the round after you've wildshaped, so you won't likely use it more than once per combat. People don't make a habit of wildshaping back and forth.

The one for the barbarians, you can get it at first level.

The designer who made it obviously must have been smoking something when he wrote it. Seeing as how a level 1 barbarian can only take advantage of it before level 6 if he dual-wields two weapons. Otherwise it is a "useless" ability for said barbarian until level 6 and beyond in which it kicks in. In addition, barbarian would become the official "dip-class" For every single melee character with half a brain. Almost to the extent like the 3.0 ranger.

For this reason, I switched the lion totem abilities from level 7 and level 1.
