| wonlee7602-08-08, 01:55 PM | Its a feat. It gives you a better chance of confirming criticals. I believe the pre-req is Improved Critical but I may be wrong about that. I think its in Complete Warrior for reference. |
| Orenmir02-08-08, 04:38 PM | What is power critical, what does it do, and what are the pre-reqs? Just a friendly reminder... Posting info that is copywrite-protected is against the CoC, and so is asking for it. Luckily (and probably intentionally), wonlee gave you some incomplete and incorrect info. Well, some of it was correct... It is a feat; it does help confirm criticals; it is from Complete Warrior; but, Improved Critical is not a prereq. To help answer and be equally incomplete... the prereqs are: one other feat and a high enough BAB. |

Thanks for letting me know what books it's in tho. |
| BugHunter02-08-08, 08:13 PM | Don't forget here is a search tool to locate feats and what books they are in. http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/lists/feats |
| JulesCARV02-08-08, 08:27 PM | Here's one version. It's probably from Deities & Demigods, from back in 3rd edition: http://www.systemreferencedocuments.org/35/sovelior_sage/divineFeats.html POWER CRITICAL [GENERAL] Prerequisites: Weapon focus (chosen weapon), base attack bonus +4 Benefit: When using the weapon you selected, you gain a +4 bonus on the roll to confirm a threat. Special: A fighter may select Power Critical as one of his fighter bonus feats. You can gain Power Critical multiple times. Each time you take the feat, it may be with a different weapon or the same weapon. If you take it with the same weapon, the effects of the feats stack. |

How the hell are you supposed to discuss a feat or a book without referring to something in it? Obviously you shouldn't just post the plain text of an entire book, but just giving details on a single feat is against the rules? |
| StruckingFuggle02-09-08, 02:38 PM | And how much /can/ you post? Does Wonlee's post violate the CoC? Would it if he gave the proper pre-req? |
| RobbyPants02-09-08, 09:36 PM | And how much /can/ you post? Does Wonlee's post violate the CoC? Would it if he gave the proper pre-req? Gotta love grey areas. I guess you could probably post the jist of the feat without the actual mechanics. Something to the effect of "it gives you a bonus to confirm critical hits" would be sufficient without giving him any playable information. Still, it can be pretty tough to have a conversation about stuff not posted in the SRD if you get too strict. Think about all the class handbooks out there that reference plenty of non-core material. It would get rediculous if you couldn't talk about this stuff. |
| BigGus02-10-08, 08:15 AM | I'm pretty sure it's OK to post a description of what something does, as long you don't give the details, so wonlee's post is not against the CoC. But you're not allowed to post or request details of non-OGL material, so Fenrir's would have been, if the material wasn't OGL (which it luckily appears that it was). Having said that, I have seen isolated cases where someone has asked for details and been given them without any apparent action being taken by WotC (the thread wasn't locked, and no warnings were posted; although whether Wizards contacted any of the participants individually I don't know). I'm pretty sure if someone made a regular habit of requesting/ giving out non-OGL material they'd soon get warned/ banned though. WotC seem to have a somewhat flexible policy about this; there's some apparently non-OGL stuff that's even been stickied on these pages (the epic wealth progressions come to mind). Also, I've been involved in lots of discussions where details have been mentioned as part of the argument and no warnings given; I think Wizards acknowledge that it would completely strangle discussion on the pages if they applied the policy too strictly. For example, a lot of threads on these pages are suggestions for modifications of unbalanced feats/ spells/ abilities etc, and often part of the original ability is posted as part of the modified version. And this is the part which is paradoxical for me; with enough searching, it's possible to assemble the details of almost anything Wizards have published from discussions on these pages. So I think Wizards take intent into account; if someone appears to be asking for something just so they can use it without buying the book, they're considered to be violating the CoC (although as noted, they don't seem to get too heavy on the first offence); but if someone mentions something as a necessary part of a valid discussion, they'll let it pass. Also, I think that while they realise it would be possible to assemble the details of something from multiple posts, they don't want to make it easy for people to steal from them by having all the information in one place. I hope this is of some help. |
