| FrostHammer02-20-07, 09:08 PM | Practical metamagic from Races of the Dragon (p101) says that it lowers the slot adjustment of one metamagic by one, but can't lower the adjustment to 0. Can I apply it to Empower Spell to make it only one slot higher than normal, and then something else, like Arcane Thesis or Metamagic School Focus, will lower the slot adjustment to 0? |
| Judging Eagle02-20-07, 09:19 PM | Oh my lack of a god! Whoo knoows?! Just do it and stop bugging us. When Prac MetaMagic gets errata'd into saying that you can't mix it with Arcane Thesis, go back to the way it was before. |
| Vaelan02-21-07, 04:10 AM | There are no rules to govern the order in which reductions to slot adjustments are processed. Anyone who says anything other than "Ask your DM" or an equally dismissive answer should go straight to your Ignore list. |
| tarkin02-21-07, 10:54 AM | It depends on your game. A Strict/Loose interpretation would always require you to do the "can not lower below 1" thing last. A Power/Anything Goes interpretation would let you do it first. |
| Kanenfawder06-13-07, 11:38 AM | General order of applying feats and abilities are whatever benefits the player most unless otherwise specified. So if one lowered it to 1 and another lowered it to 0, just so long as the one that lowers it to 0 doesn't say it can't, you're good. |

Not following the rules of the game causes the problems." How ironic. |
| Kevin Andrew Murphy06-13-07, 04:13 PM | So what you're doing is burning three feats to get the same net effect as owning a metamagic rod or two. You still eventually run out of spells. I don't see any huge problem with it personally. Feats are designed to be stacked. |
| tarkin06-13-07, 04:26 PM | Not feats that violate other feats rules. I.E. You can not cleave on a Whirlwind cause Whirlwind says no extra attacks. And the difference between using two feats and getting a rod is clear and obvious: The feats are useable UNLIMITED times per day, the rod is only good for 3x. For many feats, you will want them far more than 3 or even 6 times per day. Empower is a prime one. I can use it on pretty much every spell I cast. If you want to put in a "I can do this only 3x a day", then hey, you got a reasonable idea. Without it, your belief that it is somehow comparable to owning rods, and therefore is 'acceptable' is laughable. |
