I was just wondering if there is a feat similar to practiced Spellcaster that applies to Martial adepts. In other words, is there a feat that allows a Martial adept to increase the Effective Initiator Level in order to compensate for multiclassing. And if one does not exist, would it be out of line to create one? |
| Lotus Crane06-01-07, 03:09 AM | Well, you do realize that multiclassed martial adepts are already allowed to add half of their other class levels to their initiator level, right? For example, a ranger 10/swordsage 10 already has an initiator level of 15. |
| Salla06-01-07, 12:33 PM | What Lotus Crane said. It seems completely unnecessary ... particularly since, IIRC, few maneuvers have effects truly based off initiator level, as opposed to effects off caster level. For example, Fireball is a d6 per caster level, whereas Foehammer is +2d6, regardless of Initiator Level. |
| Jackmojo06-01-07, 03:28 PM | It would be more powerful then Practiced Spellcaster because it would do the one thing Practiced Spellcaster specifically does not: grant access to higher level Spells/powers/manuevers. So I would wager its likely both overpowered and as stated above unneccessary. Jack P.S. I personally think applying the intiator level fix to multiclass spellcasters is a good idea as a reversal of this concept though :) |

| ZiggZagg06-02-07, 05:36 PM | I am aware of the current Martial Adept multiclassing rules. I 'm just a bit of a purist and I don't like losing those few levels or Initiator Level. So would it really be that over powered, even if you lowered the number, say to 2 levels instead of 4? |
| InkBlot06-03-07, 01:49 AM | It's not an uncommon idea. I came up with a few different approaches to it. Naturally, these could not all coexist within the same game. MARTIAL TRAINING [FIGHTER] Your constant training and practice of martial ways has paid off. Prerequisite: Martial Lore 4 ranks, at least one level in a martial-adept class Benefit: Choose one martial adept class and one non-martial-adept class. All your levels in the chosen non-martial-adept class count towards your initiator level for the chosen martial adept class. For example, Kordette is a 6th level Warblade, a 4th level Barbarian, and a 2nd level Fighter with the Martial Training feat tied to her Warblade and Barbarian levels. Her Warblade initiator level is 11. Normal: Only half of your non-martial-adept class levels count towards your initiator level. Special: You can take this feat multiple times. Each time, you must choose a new martial-adept class or new non-martial-adept class. MARTIAL TRAINING [FIGHTER] Your constant training and practice of martial ways has paid off. Prerequisite: Martial Lore 4 ranks, at least one level in a martial-adept class Benefit: Your levels in non-martial-adept classes increase your initiator level at the same rate as they increase your Base Attack Bonus. For example, Josanne is a the 4nd level Crusader, 3rd level Cleric, and a 2nd level Rogue. He adds 4 initiator levels from his Crusader class levels, 2 initiator levels from his Cleric class levels, and 1 initiator level from his Rogue class levels. His total Crusader initiator level is 7. Normal: Only half of your non-martial-adept class levels count towards your initiator level. STYLE MASTERY [FIGHTER] You have unlocked secrets of one school of martial arts. Prerequisites: Martial Lore 4 ranks, at least one level in a martial-adept class Benefits: Choose one school of martial arts (Devoted Spirit, Desert Wind, Diamond Mind, Iron Heart, Shadow Hand, Setting Sun, Stone Dragon, Tiger Claw, or White Raven). Your initiator level increases by 2, but only for maneuvers and stances from that discipline. This increase allows you to, among other things, learn higher level maneuvers and stances earlier. Normal: You initiator level is equal to you level in an initiator class, plus 1/2 of your levels in non-initiator classes. Special: You may take this feat multiple times. Each time you do, choose an additional school of martial arts to apply the benefit to. |
