| Necrosaro03-27-08, 08:12 PM | the description for this feat is not easy to understand. if i get this feat do i get to choose powers from higher levels or do i just get to increase the lower level powers as if they were cast from a higher level? |
| EvilCouch03-27-08, 08:41 PM | I'm unfamiliar with the feat, but it almost assuredly does not mean that you gain access to new powers. It's probably very similar to the practiced spell-caster feat, which increases your effective spell-caster. Now, increasing your effective manifester level will probably give you additional power points, as those are tied to your manifester level, as well as opening up the possibility to manifest powers or augment powers that you previously couldn't (because of the limitation that you can never spend more power points than you have manifester levels). So, if that's the feat is worded that it increases your manifester level, then you'll stand to gain a few extra power points, increase the effects of your powers, increase your ability to break through power resistance, and gain extra flexibility. Not too shabby. |
| ToastedAmphibian03-28-08, 10:02 AM | Actually, im pretty sure that power points and bonus power points are both tied to class level, the same as spells per day are. Practiced Manifester wont give you more power points. It will increase your powers durations, and raise the cap on the number of power points you can expend at once. Basically, you have the same number of powers, and the same number of power points, but you can augment your powers more. Youll be able to manifest fewer powers if you do this, but they will last longer and be better. This is generally a really good trade off for a gish type character. If you multiclassed, you will probably spend time using that other classes abilites instead of manifesting, so manifesting less often but more effectivly really just saves you actions in combat. |
| mplindustries03-28-08, 02:12 PM | Yes, you get to spend more Power Points to augment, but you don't actually get more powers known or actual power points. Note, however, that if you are an Ardent, the powers you can choose are not based on level, but rather manifester level, so with practiced manifester, you could potentially choose higher level powers sooner. |
| Nephlite03-28-08, 02:24 PM | Actually, im pretty sure that power points and bonus power points are both tied to class level, the same as spells per day are.. Nope. Bonus PP are tied to Manifestor level. This is why high Int is less important (at low levels) to psions than Wizards who get bonus spels based on score not level. |
| mplindustries03-28-08, 03:28 PM | Nope. Bonus PP are tied to Manifestor level. This is why high Int is less important (at low levels) to psions than Wizards who get bonus spels based on score not level. Just to clarify, only bonus power points are tied to manifester level. Your base power points are tied to your class. |
| ToastedAmphibian03-28-08, 05:38 PM | How To Determine Bonus Power Points Your key ability score grants you additional power points equal to your key ability modifier × your manifester level ×½. Table: Ability Modifiers and Bonus Power Points shows these calculations for class levels 1st through 20th and key ability scores from 10 to 41. Table: Ability Modifiers and Bonus Power Points Ability Score Bonus Power Points (by Class Level) Arg..... The table says class level... which is what i was looking at. Your right thogh, the text says manifester level So ya, practiced manifester comes with between 0 and 38 power points. Edit: Im pretty sure that it SHOULD be based on class level........... |
| Tobias_Bluesummers03-28-08, 08:16 PM | The feat states right in the description This feat does not affect your powers per day or powers known. It only increases your manifester level, which helps you overcome power resistance and increases the duration and other effects of your powers. Basically, all it really does for you is if you multiclassed out of your manifester class you can get back some of those levels (up to your total hit dice). |
| NoldorForce03-29-08, 12:15 PM | That line's something of a cut-and-paste from Practiced Spellcaster, as psionics doesn't have powers per day. But in any case, bonus PP derive from your manifester level, so you'd get a boost there. Generally, powers known (and the maximum power level you can know) are tied to your class level, so you won't get a boost there. However, the ardent (CPsi) has its maximum power level effectively tied to its manifester level. (More precisely, its maximum power level is based on how many PP you can spend, which is equal to your ML.) So Practiced Manifester does improve access in that respect for ardents...but ONLY ardents. And without additional class levels, they still aren't getting more powers known. |

| NoldorForce03-29-08, 12:33 PM | Strictly speaking, that's still not powers-per-day. Not in the truly Vancian sense. (For those who are confused, the Erudite has a limit on unique powers per day in exchange for having no effective limit on how many powers it can learn. It's still not slotted like Vancian magic, however.) |
