| StevenO06-16-07, 03:32 PM | If it keys off of "caster level" as opposed to spellcaster class level then the answer is definitely Yes. There was a little discussion about this with regards to the Daggerspell Mage but I know it would certainly let you qualify for Item Creation feats and such. I'd have to look at the Martial Arcanist a little more as it could be a HUGE step up but generally it shouldn't be a problem. |
| Antioch06-16-07, 03:42 PM | Practiced Spellcaster can't improve your caster level above your character level, but otherwise can be used to qualify for Item Creation feats that list caster level as a prerequisite (such as Craft Staff). Really, you can't pick up the feat any sooner than another full-classed spellcaster, but it also improves the range and duration of spells that are dependant on your caster level, as well as caster level checks for dispel magic and overcoming spell resistance. As for prestige classes, it seems so, but only if you take it for the relevant spellcasting class (assuming you have more than one, such as if you were a wizard/cleric). Example: The enlightened fist prestige class lists arcane caster level 3 as a requirement. If you were a monk 5/bard 2 and you took Practiced Spellcaster for bard, then you would meet the caster level requirement (as it would be raised to an effective 6). If you were a monk 4/cleric 2/wizard 2, you would only meet the caster level requirement if you took it for wizard. |
| tarkin06-16-07, 04:15 PM | I believe there is a FAQ/Sage Advice article that says PRacticed Spellcaster does NOT count for satisfying pre-reqs. It only affects spell durations, etc. A similar rule is in effect for the feat that grants you a 2nd level spell 1/day even though you are a 1st level caster |
| Nom06-16-07, 05:48 PM | Practiced spellcaster increases your caster level (in a specific class). Anything that depends on caster level is affected, including feat pre-reqs. However, the problem is that "arcane caster level 3" isn't necessarily the same as "caster level 3 in an arcane class". It could equally mean "(arcane caster) level 3" or "3rd level in an arcane casting class" which is quite different. Turning the problem around, a Paladin 4 satifies "4th level divine caster" but not "caster level 4". |
