| Thramzorean04-03-08, 04:53 AM | Yep, sorry, old issue. But can't find an official comment on this and wanted to know how practised spellcaster stacks with a warlock. Invocatons with a caster level and equivalent spell level I presume stack and by extension I assume the eldritch blast does stack, though I'm not sure how the general spell-like ability catch extends. Thanks in advance. |

Thanks in advance.Practiced Spellcaster is no use to a warlock, because warlocks do not cast spells. This was discussed in the FAQ.What effect would the Practiced Spellcaster feat (Complete Arcane, page 82) have on a warlock? A strict reading of the feat’s benefit indicates that the warlock would gain no benefit from Practiced Spellcaster. The warlock is not a spellcasting class for normal purposes—the exception noted on page 18 of Complete Arcane applies only to prestige class benefits—and thus it could not be selected as the class to be affected by this feat. |
| Thramzorean04-03-08, 07:57 AM | Thanks Merestil Haye, as I thought I missed that. And pretty much what you might expect from a strict reading. However I was thinking with the Com Mage dual class PrC level up equivalents somebody at WotC might have given this thumbs up in the Dragon or elsewhere, it seems logical enough to have a feat for this, as everybody else gets one. I'll have a chat to my DM. ;) |
| Merestil Haye04-03-08, 09:15 AM | It doesn't seem unreasonable to houserule that the feat can apply to warlocks and other invocation-using classes, but you wanted the actual ruling. Warlocks are blasting fun, but need a little help past midlevels. |
| dman1123504-03-08, 10:26 AM | Do note that they won't benefit from it, like, at all. Except to allow easier access to meta-spelllike ability feats. What is based on caster level? Nothing really. EB is based off class level... |
| Mercurius04-03-08, 01:02 PM | But doesn't EB damage increase when you take a PrC that advances your spellcasting? |
| LSMFT04-03-08, 01:16 PM | Yes, it advances. That is a specific rule in the Warlocks and PrC's section. (At least, I think that was the section title.) Normally, advancing in spellcasting would not affect class features like EB damage, but this is a specific exception. Other things that increase caster-level will have no effect on EB. |

EB is based off class level... Actually, were they to qualify gor the feat: invocations have caster levels. Chilling Tentacles is BAB based on Caster: thus more caster higher it grapples (just like Evard's Black tentacles). |
| dman1123504-03-08, 09:25 PM | Oh, so there is an invocation that benefits! Might there be more? I'm no warlock expert, so I'm not fluent with them. But really, it's hardly worth a whole feat for one invocation. |
| LSMFT04-03-08, 10:12 PM | All invocations could, theoretically, benefit. At the very least in penetrating SR or avoiding potential dispelling. But, warlocks don't qualify, so, whatever. |
| Thramzorean04-04-08, 10:53 AM | The dispelling invocations definitely benefit... ;) And as you get up in levels and depending on the campaign SR is a major headache, the acid blast option excepted. |
