I thought the feat said that it didn't. But I don't have the book here.

Getting up with the prone attack? If you mean getting up from the prone position, yes, you provoke attacks of opportunity.

no it just says you can stand up as a free action at least that is what it says in comp. War.

Prone Attack is a feat in Complete Warrior, that lets you make an attack while prone and get up at the same time.

The feat does not specify, but as it makes standing a free action, and free actions typically do not provoke attacks of opportunity, I'd say that you don't provoke an AoO as you use the feat to stand up.

Well, quoteing kelvinaw2730:

Given that the Kip Up feat (CA) specifically states that you may stand up as a free action AND provoke no attack of oppertunity, as a seperate and additional benefit of the feat, I would say that, strictly speaking, you still potentially provoke an AoO using Prone Attack.

However, I would say by the spirit of the feat, the "Kick em in the jaw and follow through to standing while they're reeling from the blow" kind of picture I get would seem to suggest that an AoO would not be allowed.

I dunno, it's one of those Letter of the Law vs Spirit of the Law questions.

I have to agree. It seems clear to me that Prone Attack was designed to thwart the Trip/AoO monkeys out there, and it certainly wouldn't work if you provoked an AoO.

I'll go with no AoO.

1. Getting up from prone does incure an AoO.

2. I know this because the Sage/FAQ specifically reminded everyone that because AoO's happen the triggering event, you can not use that AoO to trip the person again.

If you can't use that AoO to trip them again, then obviously you must get that AoO.

But you're not taking into account THE FEAT! The feat is the most important part of this equation. Because it allows you to get up as a FREE ACTION.

Now it doesn't particularly say it, but it may have simply been something Wizards forgot to write in, because getting up with no AoO's is the complete spirit of the feat.

Feats don't do more than they say.

Merely making something a free action does not mean it does not incure an AoO.

Example:

Rapid Reload.

After reading Prone Attack, IMO you would be subject to the AoO but without the +4 for being prone when you stand up.
