| MrPowell8208-27-07, 11:12 PM | I am a bit confused about damage reduction. Pretty much in how it applies in different scenarios. Let's say I have a +1 Longsword. Does it get past the following damage reductions: 1. DR/Bludgeoning 2. DR/Cold Iron or Good 3. DR/Magic 4. DR/- Tell me if I am right: 1. No 2. No 3. Yes 4. No And also, is it correct that any damage dealing spell ignores damage reduction entirely? Thank you o wise and knowledgable sages. |
| MrPowell8208-27-07, 11:20 PM | Also: Would a +2 Longsword bypass DR/+1? I would assume yes. |
| Meep32608-27-07, 11:23 PM | You are correct on all counts, also note that there is no DR/+ anymore, that was changed to DR/Magic in 3.5. |
| ShinAkuma208-27-07, 11:24 PM | It seems you are correct. A +1 Longsword would break DR/Slashing, Magic, and that's about it, so long as it is a normal steel sword. Nothing breaks DR/- except things that are never subject to DR. Spells are never subject to DR, except for those spells that specifically say that they are (and those are pretty rare). Also, elemental damage (including mundane acid and fire) are not subject to DR, either. It used to be that a weapon with a high enough enhancement bonus could ignore all sorts of DRs, based on a chart, but that no longer exists in 3.5 |

Actually, any spell that uses piercing, blunt, or slashing in spell discription can't bypass DR. Sage and cut serv said. Crystal shard was the first target of that ruling. |

Sage and cut serv said. Please link to the place the Sage said that. Customer Service emails are not acceptable in any way, shape or form to prove a disputed point. It's been demonstrated to my satisfaction that the answer CS gives depends on the way the question is asked and what supporting facts are given them. Until then, damage caused directly by all spells ignores DR. |
| risner08-28-07, 03:12 PM | Also: Would a +2 Longsword bypass DR/+1? I would assume yes. Your first post was 100% correct. This one is confusing 3.0 and 3.5 rules. There is no such thing as DR/+1 in 3.5, there is only DR/Magic. Actually, any spell that uses piercing, blunt, or slashing in spell discription can't bypass DR. Sage and cut serv said Hook us up with the bomb (the Sage ruling of this), since that is handy. I don't care much about the custserv ruling, since I am sure I could get an opposite ruling with a question on the same subject if I worded the question correctly. |

Actually, the Sage says spells (even if they designated a damage type) bypass DR, whereas Complete Psionic says that psi-powers do not. Which is a pile. Pick one for your game and use it. :) |
