So if I cast a fell drained magic missle and target multiple people they all get the lvl loss. If I target the same person they only loose one lvl. My question is about Dmg over time spells like Melfs acid arrow. Would the secondary Dmg incur another lvl loss? Another spell I cant make sence of with fell is a wall of fire. Do you gain neg lvl everytime you take dmg? The wording of the spell is sort of obtuse about when the neg lvl is applied. Would casting a fell drain acid shieth/fire shield give neg lvls every time you were hit? Oh and what about a fell drained Evards black tenticles, would neg lvls occur when they hit/pressed for Dmg? Please I require help from someone wiser than I. I think it should work, but I cant prove it either way. If thier is a post about this already please give the link.

Cheers

No, just once.

Think of it this way, for any spell casted using Fell Drain, you can effect any target a maximum of one time.

yea, but I mean the text says "when the spell deal dmg" thiers no reference to intial or secondary. Also what about the rest of them? I'm sorry for being a bother but it's got my whole gamming group in a twist.

And if they intended it to be every time it deals damage, they would have clarified that by saying "every time this spell deals damage to a target, the target takes 1 negative level", but they didn't.

It is clear this is once per target even if the spell remains each round.

Come on, the rules aren't clear at all on this. Someone could argue that if they intended it to work the way you say it does, they would have clarified it.

As a side note, in our games we tried both versions. We all agreed that Fell Drain dealing more than one negative level per casting of a spell is ridiculously overpowered.

If they would have intended it to work the way the OP wants, they would have said so in the feat. Other feats/abilities use the same language (Augmented Healing for example) and the FAQ clarifies this is a one time event, when the spell first effects a target. The OP appears to be trying to wiggle his way out of the logical conclusion that it works only once per target ever because it is ridiculously overpower (and he likely knows it.)

Having it work the way the OP wants is flying in the face of existing convention without any text to back up that interpretation. Reminds me of the "dead players can take actions too you know" argument.

OK, thank you. Just wanted a clearer understanding. One time only on the initial dmg. Thanks for the help.
