| YamiShinobi01-08-08, 09:45 PM | practiced spellcaster how does it work, in the crystalkeep pdf it is too vague, does it just add to your caster level, or does it give spells per day/known as if you gained levels in the class, (i assumed it gave you per day/known) not knowing properly, i believe that if it adds per day/known, that you could qualify for arcane trickster 4 levels early, (which i want to do!) a pair 20 level builds i wanted to test (both i want to play) spontanueous rogue4/scr2/arcanetrickster10/rogue3/assassin/arcanetrickster2 sorcerer variant, blood of syberys (treat cha as 4 higher for spellcasting) prepared rogue 4/wizard2/arcanetrickster8,rogue3/assassin1/arcanetrickster2 wizard variant, whatever matched the sorcerers blood of syberis (treat int as 4 higher for spellcasting) both take practiced spellcaster at levels 6 and 18 (two feats) and have the following benefits at epic sneak atack+10d6 , uncanny dodge, death attack, ranged legerdemain and impromptu sneak attack 2/day, evasion, 9th level spells as if 20th level in original classes, insanely high reflex and will saves and tons of skillpoints. the sorcerer one has MAD like crazy, but offset a little, the wizard (same variant type, but one less attribute) has ungodly high amount of spells, and more skilpoints, (assuming spellpoint variant) lets assume the elite array 15 in dex 14 in int 13 in cha 12 in con 10 in wis and 8 in str, lest bump dex to 16 at 4th, cha to 14 at 8th, str to 9 and 10 at 12 and 16, and wis to 11 at 20, lets add a +3 in herent bonus to str, wis, and con, and a +5 to int and cha and +4 dex for both by 20th 20 dex 19 int 19 cha 15 con 14 wis 13 str, next lets add +6 enahncemnt items to each stat 26 dex 25 int 25 cha 19 str 20 wis and 21 con, (all these bonuses came from wish) remember, for sorcerer 1, cha+4 wizard int+4 (spellcasting with 29, spell point variant) 339 wizard 356 sorcerer this is spellcasters dream. and even more so an arcane trickster s dream, would this work? |
| andinel01-08-08, 10:30 PM | Practiced Spellcaster only adds to caster levels and not anything else, and even then only up to +4. |
| arjomanes01-08-08, 10:46 PM | Practiced Spellcaster gives +4 to caster level, not to exceed HD. So a sorceror 2/rogue 4 can cast level 0 and level 1 spells only, but he will cast those few spells as a 6th level caster. Practiced Spellcaster is useful to shore up a loss in 1 or 2 caster levels, or in a build that uses spells for self-buffs. Your example would not have 9th level spells, but some 1st level sorceror spells. |
| war_thog01-08-08, 11:59 PM | Jesus those variants are ridiculously OP. I mean spell points, seriously? And where did you find that "blood of syberys" variant anyway? How about just playing a normal guy? And last I checked you cant take the feat twice for the same casting class. So max you can gain to your sorc CL is +4. Doesnt stack, only applies to diff classes. |
| Novacat01-09-08, 12:18 AM | If you want to use the feat, I have to recommend you get the book, so you can see the exact wording, and be sure you're using it properly. Non-OGL material being what it is, we can't spell out its use specifically here. Sufficed to say, Practiced Spellcaster does nothing for you if your Caster Level is already equal to or higher than your total Character Level. It does not affect spell slots, spells per day, spells known, or maximum spell level. It only affects your Caster Level, and any spell effects dependent on that. In addition, it cannot be taken more than once per spellcasting class. |
