| dirkformica04-02-07, 10:01 PM | The Dweomerkeeper prestige class from the Complete Divine web enhancement (http://www.wizards.com/dnd/files/More_Divinity.zip) has an ability that allows the character to cast spells he has prepared as a supernatural ability. Can this be augmented with Divine Metamagic or other Metamagic feats? I'm wondering if a Dweomerkeeper can cast a DM Persistent spell as a supernatural ability to make it immune from dispelling mainly. |

| Grizzled Gryphon04-04-07, 10:40 PM | After reading the ability, I would say that it depends on the spell and how the caster gets it. For a spontaneous caster, no. For a preparation caster, yes, under the right circumstances. Basically, if you prepare a Maximized Cure Light Wounds spell, and thus is on your list of spells prepared for the day, then this ability works just fine. If, on the other hand, you spontaneously prepare spells, and have Cure Light Wounds as a known spell, then you can use this ability with that, but not with a modified version of the spell. Unless you somehow have Maximized Cure Light Wounds as a Spell Known, it won't work with this ability. I seem to recall, though, somewhere there being either a feat or a class feature option that allows a spontaneous caster to learn spells with various metamagic feats already applied. At least, that is how I would do it. |
| dirkformica04-05-07, 09:59 AM | I currently think that a spell prepared and memorized in a slot modified by a metamagic feat would qualify for Supernatural Spell (SS.) I am not sure about how Divine Metamagic (DM) would interact with this ability, however. The spell is prepared at normal level and only benefits from the modified metamagic feat at the time of casting. So I'm not sure how this would sequence. Would the DM affect the spell and then SS would turn the whole thing into a modified Supernatural effect? Or would the SS affect the spell first making it ineligible for the DM effect? I'm not sure if there is a clear cut RAW answer, but I'd like to hear opinions and rationales. |
| tarkin04-05-07, 10:44 AM | The question is one of order. If Supernatural Spell goes first, Divine Metamagic will not work, because it is not a spell. If Divine Metamagic goes first, then it will work. I believe (an not certain) that Divine Metamagic must be used when you prepare a spell, not when you cast the prepared spell. As such, the combo should work. If I am wrong, that you must use it when you cast the spell, then the combo should not work. |
| Grizzled Gryphon04-05-07, 09:41 PM | Divine Metamagic allows you to affect a spell you cast with a metamagic feat, but you spend turn attempts for the level adjustment. So, no, it doesn't work with this ability. |
