| Nivek Loneshadow03-13-07, 08:43 PM | A player of mine wants to take the Martial Stance Feat to gain the Martial Spirit Stance. The trouble is he's playing a Warblade and I didn't think you could use this feat to gain a stance from a school your class does not have access to. I wanted to ask here to see how others have dealt with this. |

The trouble is he's playing a Warblade and I didn't think you could use this feat to gain a stance from a school your class does not have access to. I wanted to ask here to see how others have dealt with this. A fighter could use that feat to gain a stance he didn't normally have access to. Why wouldn't a warblade be able to? |
| Crimson_Concerto03-13-07, 08:52 PM | A fighter could use that feat to gain a stance he didn't normally have access to. Why wouldn't a warblade be able to? I agree. A Warblade certainly can't learn a stance from disciplines he doesn't have access to if the stance in question is granted by his class, but the feat has no such restriction, so as long as the Warblade meets the stace's prerequisites, it can learn a stance from whatever discipline is wants. |
| Nivek Loneshadow03-13-07, 09:01 PM | Well after rereading the book I answered my own question. Here is the catch. . . "Benefit: When taking this feat you can select any stance from a discipline in which you already know at least on maneuver." So if they don't already have that discipline they can't have maneuvers in it. |

"Benefit: When taking this feat you can select any stance from a discipline in which you already know at least on maneuver." So if they don't already have that discipline they can't have maneuvers in it. But if the Warblade in question uses the Martial Study feat to learn a maneuver from a discipline in which he would not normally have access to, then he could also later pick up Martial Stance for a stance of that discipline. |
| Nivek Loneshadow03-13-07, 09:11 PM | Perhaps that could work. I've been focused on the char in question for my group and he doesn't have martial study. Still I'll keep that option in mind for him |
| Tempest Stormwind03-13-07, 09:38 PM | A warblade with Martial Stance can learn any Diamond Mind, Iron Heart, Stone Dragon, Tiger Claw or White Raven stance. If he picks up a Martial Study feat as well, he can pick a stance from that discipline. Do note that you can only take Martial Study three times, although Martial Stance has no such restriction. |
| Neutronium_Dragon03-13-07, 09:42 PM | It not only can work, it's the normal and expected method of using it if you're going outside of your standard disciplines or you're taking it as a non-martial character. Mixing disciplines isn't something which creates inherent problems in any case. The book is full of options which allow all kinds of discipline combinations, and the disciplines available to a class has mostly to do with the theme of the class, not power considerations. |
