| quies02-28-07, 09:58 AM | how does level adjustment factor into the leadership feat? for example, i'm a 10th level human fighter with a leadership score of 14 and i want a drow cohort. i know the highest level cohort i could attract is level 8, but does mean my cohort's ECL can't be higher than 8 or just their class level can't be higher than 8? |

| Xippendollom Krakenwarren02-28-07, 12:37 PM | An interesting twist on this question: If you're level adjusted (say +1), and you wanted to get a cohort, would your cohort be 2 levels lower than your character level or than your ECL? |
| Seeking_Knight_of_Graves02-28-07, 12:52 PM | I agree that it is the ECL. But I have an add on to this question. Certain things in the MM has +x (Cohort). So I am wondering this. Say I ahve a 12 level gnome warlock/scout. I take leadership at 12 level and my charisma is 18 due to level stat increases. that is a +4 bonus. If I remember correctly I can have a 10 level cohort 25 first level followers, 2 second level and 1 third. Now could I use say...two worgs as my second level followers seeing how they have a +1 as the LA? Thanks in advance. |

I let ECL count. (It counts for everything else!) This can get weird results, like a cohort who is actually a higher level than you. I figure, with your LA, youre still more powerful, and the xp all still works out, so Im ok with it. I know another system, Tarkins, where he ignores ECL for things of your same race. Like, if you were a drow, with a +2 LA, you would ignore the +2 for drow followers, but not for anything else. If I remember correctly I can have a 10 level cohort 25 first level followers, 2 second level and 1 third. Now could I use say...two worgs as my second level followers seeing how they have a +1 as the LA? Thanks in advance. In theory, I would allow followers based on ECL. But your example is incorrect. The ECL of a worg is 5: 4 hit dice + 1LA. Level Adjustment This line is included in the entries of creatures suitable for use as player characters or as cohorts (usually creatures with Intelligence scores of at least 3 and possessing opposable thumbs). Add this number to the creature’s total Hit Dice, including class levels, to get the creature’s effective character level (ECL). A character’s ECL affects the experience the character earns, the amount of experience the character must have before gaining a new level, and the character’s starting equipment. If you had a leadership score of 19, which entitles you to a fifth-level follower, I would probably let you have a worg in that slot. |
